Sonofabitch. I'm in SE Virginia. We get hurricanes, but usually they aren't as strong by the time they get to us like they are in Florida. I might end up being one of those pussies that heads to the store for water, batteries, a life raft, a few cyanide pills in case all hope is lost...........and beer of course. I've got a baby on the way, I might as well get used to being a panty waste. Too early to tell, but I really thought it would be a Florida problem. Oh well.
this may phuck with the whole east coast. I just hope it stays offshore and we get some clean meaty surf once it passes north  http://polar.ncep.noaa.gov/waves/viewer.shtml?-multi_1-latest-US_eastcoast-hs-
Yeah being somewhat prepared is not a bad thing. Then a little hurricane is actually really entertaining. Wilma was like a camping trip for three days. Had a blast. First time I ever really saw stars down here. Took my bike out through the wreckage (my car was boxed in by down tree limbs) and just had to laugh at how fast modern society devolves after two days without power. Saw two women who looked like they should have been on a shopping spree at the Boca Mall with their black cards almost come to blows over the last cigarette lighter in Publix. Good times. One of the most important things people always forget on the hurricane supply list: Cash. Supplies are available in abundance but if the ATM network's down for a week good luck getting them.
Its looking more and more like the Jets will play their second consecutive preseason game with nasty weather. Saturday night/Sunday looks like the metro area target. This Hurricane has been shifting east with the track on every model run...sometimes the trend continues..sometimes it goes back to the original track. The whole East Coast needs to watch this closely but its looking more and more like Eastern Coast of Florida will suffer some beach erosion...and the target area seems to be NC/SC border. That area is a magnet...trust me...I know...we have a family home we stay at on North Topsail Beach twice a year. Magnet. Makes landfall around Friday Night and zooms up the coast. With that angle its coming at...really tough to see a more northern landfall than NC....but you never know. Here is a great...I mean a great webcam from Dominican Republic that will be very very interesting to watch overnight and tomorrow. Stinky put a model landfall in a previous post...thats where its at right now...any more northern/northeast track and this thing hugs the coast and doesnt make landfall..but I doubt it. Here is the webcam: http://www.cabaretekitebeachwebcam.com/video/ Here is the forecast from accuweather: http://www.accuweather.com/blogs/news/story/54098/hurricane-irene-to-slam-into-t.asp Here is the forecast for the Meadowlands for the extended week: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClic...KX&textField1=40.8175&textField2=-74.0844&e=0 Here is the hazardous weather outlook for New Rutherford this weekend: IMPACTS FROM TROPICAL SYSTEM IRENE ARE POSSIBLE LATE THIS WEEKEND AND FOR THE START OF NEXT WEEK. THE TIMING IS UNCERTAIN...BUT IMPACTS COULD BEGIN STARTING ON SATURDAY. HEAVY RAIN AND STRONG WINDS ARE POSSIBLE DURING THIS TIME PERIOD. PLEASE REFER TO THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER FOR THE LATEST FORECASTS AND STATEMENTS REGARDING THIS SYSTEM.
Yeah I hear it does not look good for your area. My Mom and Dad live in Calabash, NC, just on the other side of the border. Brother is vacationing in our house on Ocean Isle Beach - looks like all of you guys are in line for a direct hit.
At Holden Beach NC, where my stepson parks his camper when working at the nuclear plant nearby, the beach is already eroded to the point of near nonexistence during high tide...all I can say, I hope the people renting lots there have the sense to GTFO before next weekend. Topsail Island, Kure Beach, Fort Fischer, Bird Island, I hope they look the same when I get back. Good luck, guys.
Good point Hiker. When you watch where they point to the landfall area...you want to be on the southern side of the landfall....points just to the northern side is where you get the massive beach erosion and where maximum waves and tides come in. Its the counter clockwise rotation of the storm. Just picture being to the north of the eye is where you get all of the wind and storm surge. To the south of the eye is heavy wind..but coming off the land. Thats why when they say nc/sc border..just north..say Wilmington, Carolina Beach, Topsail Island...you want to be south of the eye. This is a tricky forecast...but that nc/sc border with they way it protrudes out over the Atlantic compared to Georgia..or Virginia...which is protected by NC...its a rough spot. Regardless, the storm hits land somewhere there and begins to accelerate rapidly North...North East. Thats where the Jets come into play Saturday night. Still a very good chance the main part arrives Sunday...we shall see.
If you look at that track of that eye....that is a typical major nor'easter track..where the eye never actually makes landfall..but hugs the coast. I cant see that type of track playing out this time of year. Past experience with these type of Hurricane tracks is it makes landfall in NC or very north SC. BUT...you never know.
Holden Beach, look at how little beach is left already Fort Fischer, where they already have boulders to hold back the sea as it is Like I said, good luck.
Wow Hiker...thats not a good sign for this storm. Have to tell you..even up here in Jersey...this doesnt look to good. This storm has Hurricane Floyd written all over it. All the extended tracks take this storm right over NJ. While, of course, you do not get the violent winds, you get the rain. This is going to be a real tough weekend for millions. For the people down in Eastern NC/SC and even Virginia..prepare now.
And my mother in Myrtle Beach still will not buy extra water. She's had 1 minor hit in 10 years there.
Man..she has been lucky Fen. She has escaped while areas just about 100 miles north have been clobbered about 5 times in the last 15 years. Cross fingers it stays that way.
