North Queensland is bracing for a massive cyclone.

I'm on my phone so can't post an image.

Damn great job...you are a graduate of Jaywayne Weather buddy. TBJ...dead on..in fact everyone has this one right or wrong. The line between snow and ice..or ice and rain is impossible to be exact on. It will eventually run where it should be...NW North Jersey gets an Ice Storm...lower NY State gets and Ice Storm eventually...Albany gets a record Snow Storm. Is this correct? Hell no...but thats where the patterns usually set up.

The cutoff line, in past experiences, is always more north than portrayed. For instance, I would be shocked if NYC receives an Ice Storm. Water temps are in the mid 30's...but if it were to ever happen..this would be the type of storm.

One thing I will say...the NWS continues to up snow/ice accumulations. We are in the 8-10 range. Much higher than the 3-5 they had yesterday. Most of that will fall in the first 10 hours..snow building up easier than ice..which will be the next 15 hours.

Once again...two parts to the storm. Mostly snow the first part...and then a break...and then a downpour of sleet and freezing rain...then hopefully turning to rain.

You will probably get a nice batch of snow in the first 10 hours..and then heavy heavy sleet. I doubt you will change over to plain rain. You are in a real bad spot.

Most models have gone colder..which isnt good. Most of the snow that falls will be tomorrow..then a break...the all the ice crap late tomorrow and overnight.

Nah..no closings for schools. Snow will not even start until around 4-5am. The commute home will be horrible.

The commute in the morning will go downhill....but an early start should be ok.

Honestly, I've never been concerned about incoming weather before, but this one ..... I don't know.

There's already three feet of old snow hanging around, ice buildup on roofs and gutters, a couple roof collapses near where I live, snow piles 10-15 feet high, and now we're looking at ANOTHER foot or more? Followed by freezing rain? Followed by an arctic blast?

If I still have time, I'm going to buy a load of firewood. This just seems like one of those storms that blows your power out for a few days.

Thats the thing SJ, there will be areas that lose power..and it wont be a couple small towns. Where is the key..and better to be safe than sorry. I loaded up on wood.

The gutters and ice build up on roofs is a real problem for areas that switch over to rain or stay all snow. Sleet? Thats pussy stuff. Sleets easy to drive on and doesnt cause much damage. Snow, freezing rain, rain. They will all suck here.

And yeah..its going to get really cold behind this storm..and should I say it? Possible storm Saturday and next Wednesday.

I think pats-hater pointed this out a few days ago, but there was an ice storm a couple years back that put most of central and western Massachusetts out of power. Some for more than a week. And that was just freezing rain and ice, no snow.

I can't ever remember a winter like this. I remember the Blizzard of 78, which put everyone out of commission for a couple weeks; but that was just one isolated storm. This is storm behind storm behind storm, with sustained cold. Any melting that we're getting, if any at all, is short-lived and followed by a new blast of cold. The back of my house is covered in ice. There's an ice formation that started as an icicle, but reached the ground and now it's a column. Cuh-razy.

    Geezus. Pussies.

Nothing here yet, but I'm nearer to the coast and a south of you. It's cold as all get-out, though.

No, thankfully way off. This is the tropical North. They are saying it could be a category 5 when it hits landfall. Katrina was a 3 when it hit landfall. There are no really large cities up there but some large regional towns and a lot of the tourist areas, as it is prime Great Barrier reef.
