It was projected to make landfall near AC? I know the Mandatory Evac went out at 4PM today in my hometown of Point Pleasant Beach. Everybody east of the traintracks which is essentially the entire town was forced to evacuate. If it moves up the Jersey Coast from South Jersey to Central Jersey that could mean anywhere from Barnaget to Asbury Park. Isn't there a specific part of the eye you don't want to be in? Is it SW of the eye? If that's the case I'll pray it hits further south then Point but Point is roughly 50 miles from Atlantic City.

    Hey Barry,

Whereever the eye hits...you do not want to be north of it. Picture the rotation of the storm to be counter clockwise..above the eye, you get surge, wind off the ocean. South of the eye, counter clock wise, you get wind off the land. Thats why when the storm approaches out at sea, you get the wind off the ocean. As soon as the storm passes, the wind redirects to off land. North of the eye is bad..very bad.

If landfall is in AC, Point Pleasant being north of the eye gets hammered..while Cape May, Wildwood etc gets the approaching winds off water..but once it passes and makes landfall in A.C., the winds are actually coming off land.

Very important...counter clock wise is the rotation of the storm. Point Pleasant would get hammered with a direct hit from lets say Seaside Heights and all points south...but not as bad with Asbury Park and points north.

Put a gun to my head? I would say P.P. is in bad spot...I see it hitting between A.C. and LBI.

Well I decided to close my store all day tomorrow. I really hope I don't lose power at my home or at the store. (Rutherford, NJ)

So based on your models where is the projected eye going to be? I hope you are going to tell me north of Point...lol. I saw near Atlantic City but that was about 8 hours ago. If you move it up the coast about 50 miles that is basically Seaside, Ortley/Normandy Beach, Island Beach, LBI which would be very very bad for Point Pleasant.

Are you familiar with how the Nuke Plant in Forked River is equipped to handle something like this? It's quite close to the water so I'm guessing it could sustain heavy flooding but that shouldn't be something to be concerned about is it? My mother is about 15 minutes from there in Lakehurst. Far enough from the water but last time they had a bunch fo little creeks and streams that overflowed.

50 miles north to their original projection...which was Cap May...I really do believe between A.C. and LBI..which is not good for P.P. Barry..not good at all.

Lakehurst is going to have major flood issues. The more south you go from NYC..more flooding..even inland. NYC can get 3" while South Jersey is forecasted to get 7. Huge difference. Not sure at all about the Nuke Plant...sorry.

Heading to bed guys..be back early morning..well..around 10. 21st amm. great move closing...by noon its going to really suck.

Here we go folks. gonna be in long beach (south nassau county) taking it all in.

no doubt the SS of long island is gonna take it. but the parallel storm path should help a bit - unfortunately not so for the east facing coast of jersey.

    good luck

Jay Wayne and the rest of you ,,,thanks for all the info,,,,,,this is a great place to get the latest on this storm and I am sure many people like myself are learning stuff we never knew or understood. Maybe mayor Bloomberg should have read or start reading this thread,,,,,,,I still cannot believe he down played this thing when every news / weather guy was warning us about it !

Pt. Pleasant is getting hammered this morning. Once Sandy is done there, she's headed my way for Tuesday and Wednesday. I guess it could be worse and I lived in Morgantown, WV. They're gonna get buried in snow there. Right now, my biggest fear is power outages as I have several fish tanks and a finicky cat. :eek:hmy:

Looks like my power must have flashed off briefly last night. In Hicksville, some gusts now, not too much precip.

My dog took a dump in the kitchen. So far, that is the extent of my storm damage.
