I am in the gas station business, Gas was between 20 - 29 cents per gallon in 1969. It didn't jump to that high until 1974-75.

It's not an asinine statement. I do not believe there is a good suitable HC out there. What coach out there do you believe would you jump out of your seat to hire?

Greg Roman (49ers OC) - read about what San Fran fans have said about this guy. I'll tell you one thing it is not positive.

Ken Whinsenhunt - Needed Kurt Warner to save his job, other then that was inept with the Cardinals

Darrell Bevell - Couldn't get the job for Chicago or Arizona - both went with better offensive minds

Those are your best 3 candidates in my opinion. Bevell has had many opportunities to become a HC - yet no one hired him. He's prob the best case scenario.

You really want to go down the Belichick tree again with O'Brien from Penn State? Thanks, but no thanks - no coach under his tutelage has been successful as a HC.

Who ya got? I do not like the candidates that are available. David Shaw the coach I do like the most and I believe he will be a good HC in the NFL will not be available.

Who is going to step in and take the strong, unconventional core of this team (read: defense) and get anything near what Rex will get out of it over the next 3-5 years? Honest question looking for an available name.

I like to watch offensive football, and it definitely works especially in the regular season but I still believe the cliche that defense wins championships holds true so if there isn't a defensive guru out there how can a replacement be better than gutting the utility that Coples, Richardson, Wilkerson, Harrison provide under Rex?

It's easy to say after the win and this could've backfired if the game went differently, but I think it's a good guess of what was going on with that.

I prefer the comic books cost a dime and pizza was a quarter a slice analogy better but that's because those two things were about the only thing I spent my limited funds on the last time the Jets won a championship. :)

I had a friend I used to go to the local pizza parlor with who would slap 2 dollars down on the bar and if he could eat the 8 slices in a pie they were on the house. He made it once or twice to the consternation of the proprietor who would slip pepperoni and sausage and extra cheese on some of the slices to trip him up. After awhile he was eating a deluxe pie for 2 bucks. Not a bad deal at all.

I won't be upset if Ryan is fired.

Five years of horrible offense is enough for me. NFL games are like pinball this year and watching the Jets prehistoric offense is painful. Ground and pound worked in the 70s, but it does not work in today's NFL.

He has been unable to develop a QB. Watching games is often painful. The Jets are a boring, bad team and have been for three seasons now.

As for the defense, it has regressed almost every season for the past five years. This season's defense is not good. It is average with regard to yards against and points. The pass defense has been awful. Most telling is that the Jets are last by far in causing turnovers and that can't be ignored.

I was referring to the "before 1980" part of his post ...

I've had tickets for 34 years and I never once went to see a coach. I did not go today though because as much as I love the Jets, I did not want to sit through what I thought would be another terrible game.

How about Jay Gruden as the next coach?

Pretty much every year in the NFL good first time coaches are hired. The opinions you or I have on the potential candidates are based on pretty much no information compared to what the owners/gm's have and will have after the interview process. So forgive me when I call bullshit when someone says no good coaches will be available.

Rex is not the only guy who can coach defense in the NFL. I'm SURE another competent NFL defensive coordinator will be available and I'm also SURE they'll be able to have success with all the defensive talent the Jets have collected.

So you want to trade one of if not the best DC for another? Who exactly are you thinking of, presumably that might give a bump in offense? As long as you're not getting specific, it sounds like a recipe for a trainwreck.

Idk it was kinda strange how Rex walked around the whole field shaking hands with all the fans like it would be his last home game there.. I hope this aint true.. Like you guys said earlier this season & direction this team is heading in would just be a waste .. SMFH!!!!!!!

Yes, I'd like to trade our DC for a HC and a DC. That's the problem, we're missing a HC. Sorry if that sounds so crazy to some people.

I suppose then that every single coach in this league has lost control of the lockeroom, because for each team there is someone that has something out of context to say. Welker with BB as an example, many of the Ravens, and the Steelers, even a couple of the 49s like Erik Smith.

I'm sorry but Rex has the respect of the locker room and they all play their heart out for him, except for perhaps Santonio.

May be, just may be its time to give Rex the talent that it takes to win instead of asking for his head. All we need to do is see what the best teams have in common, a great QB, top notch receivers and a monster OL. Unfortunately in most cases selecting the QB is a crap shoot that only on occasion pans out, unless you have the 1st pick in the very year where a stud is available ala Luck and Manning.

As long as we have people with bloated contracts and very little productivity like Sanchez and Homes and others we will suffer no matter who the coach is.
As long as Rex has very limited input on the draft I'm ok with him being the HC.

2 new LB'rs, 2 new CB's and 2 new safeties should do it, right?

No, it sounds wonderful. Let's fire Rex and then hire Rex as DC, think he'll bite? See you lost me a little bit because now it sounds like you want to fire Rex and Dennis Thurman because Thurman isn't good enough to get the production out of 4 natural DT beasts using them all over the line utilizing man corners to boot. Idk, don't think there's a ton of guys that can do that in the league. Maybe what, 5 guys? 10 if you want to get generous? But now you're not promoting the tenth best from DC to HC to tempt him away, you're offering him what the same job in a tougher town? I assume he's under contract too since he has a proven track record of being able to do crazy things with defenses. Who is this mysterious dude that is such a successful DC that isn't under contract and wants to come to the Jets and be a....DC?

Oh yeah, then the little matter of a better HC too. I can see why you're not throwing around any names now. Now I see why you're not saying any names.

The common denominator on most all cases, not all but close, is not the coach but a solid to great if not HOF QB. Let Idzik find one for Rex and then we can talk.

Everybody who wants Rex gone. Who the hell do you replace him with? Before you start throwing these Cower and Gurden name out there don't forget we had a hard time getting GM to come here.

I've thrown out names before, I don't see any point in doing it again. Mostly because it's irrelevant. There are however; a handful of offensive minded potential HC candidates that could be very good.

I don't know if you've noticed, but our secondary sucked dick at man coverage for most of the year. The d-line is nice, but you know who runs that? It's not Rex or DT.

I don't know if he's up for it or even capable but I'd take a long hard look at promoting Karl Dunbar to DC.
