I don't think Arians could fix the fact that there were no playmakers in the offense. In Pittsburgh, he had Rothlisberger, Mike Wallace, a young Santonio Holmes and Hines Ward. In Indy he had Andrew Luck and Reggie Wayne. Now in Arizona he has Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald. Who would he have had here? He walked into a perfect situation in Arizona.
For me Rex will be gone and whilst the part who knows he is a defensive mastermind will be torn...I will not miss his complete inability to understand the offensive or game management side of HC. I so wanted Rex to be the one who did it for us as he is infectious , the cool kid at school type...but he has a lot of deficiencies that I am not sure a new GM will want to watch . I would love us to get Bevell , like the way he has taken Wilson from Day one and built an offense around him. I think Idzik has had him in mind from day one..he is the opposite of Rex...a Dungy type coach but he seems to be seen as one of the bright minds.. With an offseason that will see the Offense rebuilt...it maybe time to give us the offensive guru that teams need to win..I would then get Paul Guenther to be DC currently LB coach at Cincy...learnt under a better DC than Ryan in Marv Lewis.
No way Rex gets fired, especially after some of his defensive draft picks have been performing as of late. In addition, Rex and Marty make a nice tandem. A commitment to the 46 defense and West Coast offense for the next couple years? Doesn't sound too shabby at all.
I think we should let the coaches stay together for one more year, BUT this draft and FA has to be all offence which I think everyone agrees. Our secondary can use some help but I dont see us wasting high draft picks in that area. NOW only time will tell which way we go. Hope they dont blow it all up and try to start over. Go Jets
me too. He knows he needs a good end to the season. If the players want him to stay they will play for him like they did yesterday. IF we finished 8-8 it shows they have heart. I thought it was interesting that Idzik was on the sidelines yesterday. Maybe he was sampling the played atmosphere. With MM we have an offensive mind and Rex has got way better at his HC duties. Its nice to have a team that has a strong defence. Its a solid foundation. With one or 2 addition on defence and the rest of offence we could be up there again next season. IF we let Rex go we all know he will be a success elsewhere. Lets keep him and have some stability and build on what we have. Not re-tool again with another hopeful nobody.
i didnt read the whole thred so maybe this was covered, but "word on the street" is probably referring to the beat writers. this was nothing more than a motivational tactic and another way to keep the focus off his young team.
i agree because i hope youre right. with the scraps we have for players in most areas, mainly the offense, to be 500 is a damn miracle. that miracle really has almost everything to do with rex. also the fact that the players are so vocal about wanting him to stay. i havent seen too many situations at the pro level where a coach is so loved by such a large majority of the players. his good standing with so many guys will help us in the long run. talent will take a chance on the jets when they know that they will at least deal with a guy that respects them and does whats in their best interest. (obviously the money comes first but its a huge tipping point) i think he deserves a 4 year extension. let him grow with this young team and see what he can really do.
Cmon the Browns were at our level so we could compete with them. Put us against the mightiest of the league & U would be posting a whole different story
I think it really comes down to this next game. If the Jets win, Rex will keep his job 8-8 record on a well known rebuild season. If the Jets lose, Idzik is going to bring in his own guy, and live or die by the decision.
Ummmm... I think back to back AFC title games shows quality coaching. Best I've seen since 98'. Probably the best since I've been a Jets fan. The roster falls apart, and this is the shit that happens. I'm still convinced that Rex and Co. are getting the very most out of this roster. You just want blame Rex because he's the easy target but you can't do the things he's done if he is a bad coach. The guy had no authority over this roster, he does not make those decisions. He coaches the players he's dealt and he's been given a really shitty hand the past three years. It's amazing that we've managed as many wins as we have in that time frame. Us picking number one is ridiculous? You need to really look long and hard at this roster, if you think the talent on this team is serviceable, your in denial. We have our strengths on this team, as every team In the league does but to discredit the coaching and automatically assume we are not picking number 1 this year purely because of our DL talent is crazy talk. There is a reason everyone outside of this fan base thought we were going to be the worst team in football heading into he year. It's because we don't have shit in the means of talent on the offensive side of the ball, 7-8 new starters on defense, rookie QB, etc. Your argument sucks. I'm tired of talking to the dense crowd.
Don't even waste your time, this guy can't see acknowledge our faults on offense. The guy is expecting Rex to play God and magically make this lackluster offense a power house. This isn't rocket science. If you don't have a single playmaker on offense, your probably in for a very long season. Some fans can see the obvious, others can't I guess.
This !!! Im also tired of hearing "we only played good against bad teams" bullshit because honestly we are nowhere near a GOOD team yet.. Which is why Rex gotta stay.. We are really a offense that can put up at least 21 a game w/ Rex's defense away from being a force to be reckoned with ..
Carson Palmer outright sucks and Fitzgerald has been banged up all year. Arizona with Arians as HC has a better D then the NY Jets. Granted they still have more weapons then we do mostly because they got a great pick in Ellington in the 6th round.
