Powell is as much of a playmaker as Forte, if not more. And I agree the Jets should look to keep Decker, but he needs to get healthy first. And if he plays he should STFU. He put alot of pressure on the Jets FO to resign Fitz last year, and dont forget he signed with Geno as QB and played with Tebow in Denver, so he is accustomed to catching balls from middling QB's.
I never understood this band-aid or bridge QB garbage Either go for it or don't go at all...why should we waste a year with someone like Cutler? Even if we get good Cutler what is the ceiling for this team? 7 wins at the absolute best? Fuck that...if you're going to rebuild then rebuild! Let Petty, Hack, and any other QB that isn't proven yet fight for the job You either strike gold and find a QB to build around or you suck and get in a good spot to land one in next years draft Either option is great for this franchise...the middle of the road-below average option is horrible After cutting Mangold, Revis, and Marshall, it makes zero sense to now try to half ass your way to a below average season
Did Chicago even have a decent team when he was there? Forte, Marshal, Alshon. Seriously who else did they have? I'm not making excuses for him, but didn't he have Trestman, who should have been a school principal. Mike Tice as OC, your right, I dont think there was a good support system. How is that any different with the jets though, one good year, one bad, on the verge of another bad one, CS turnover. Only consistency so far is inconsistency, it's not what he needs if he wants to succeed. He should probably sign with the Cowboys as a back up.
It's because Todd needs a veteran, he is not into developing QBs, he is Bill Parcells style old school. His handling of Petty last year gave you all the insight you needed on his way of thinking. You give him any veteran I guarantee you he will start him. The rookies will not get a chance to start unless the starter goes down with an injury.
No you're a real contribution to community here. Thank you. I just hope all of you who are clambering for a top 2 QB or Darnold next year, are also in the camp for starting Hack or Petty this season. Because it makes no sense at all to use such a high pick on a QB when we have no idea what we have in the guys that are already here. http://www.espn.com/blog/new-york-j...ays-christian-hackenberg-can-win-starting-job Not sure who all has seen this but I think it's an interesting insight to a topic that has been oddly clandestine. No matter who is brought in this year I just hope it's an honest competition and Bowles starts the best guy. I remember Pete Carroll doing this a few years back and people thought he was crazy, but it seemed to work out OK.
I think most of the guys on the board want to see the kids get a chance, there will be growing pains with a rookie under center and most jet fans are ok with that. Thats the whole purpose of rebuilding, it's not about the rest of the team getting with the exception of the QB position. I'm okay with giving Hack and Petty a chance.
I mean if it were me ... we'd be on the same boat... im starting HACK to help lose games just for Darnold if it's my franchise.. but Jets are looking for a free agent QB so I'm just going by what they give me to go by.
Football is too physical of a sport to assume you will just tank. It's ridiculous the way people have been talking. Even in a rebuild you try to win. I think Cutler or a veteran like him is important for the team to sign.
It's more probable than not Eric Decker and Jessie James will be hosting/recruiting Jay Cutler and Kristin Cavallari during Jay's visit to the Jets this week.
It depends on whether he wants to continue to start. If hes comfortable being a backup and collecting a paycheck then he should just sign with the Cowboys. Earlier in his tenure with Chicago they had a pretty legit team, now the Bears are mediocre at best. Jets are rebuilding and are mediocre but I think there is something to be said for a change of scenery. I wouldn't be upset nor over the moon if we got Cutler. The goal is he would essentially be a stop gap till either Hack or Petty are ready, or if we draft a QB in this years draft and aim at developing him.
This would be such a predictably shitty "Jets move" that I really didnt think it would happen...... 2 years ago before the bearded blunder, maybe; but NOW?!?! C'mon blizzard!!! do your thing and shutdown the JETS offices for a few days!
Frankly, 14 losses - as gut wrenching as that would be for most fans to endure - might not be enough. Ask the Niners about that.
Of course when we are talking about tanking it means putting young guys out there to sink or swim Best case scenario is Hack proves to be the real deal and we will still be rooting for the team to do well regardless Why is playing Cutler or a vet instead of someone with an actual future important to you? I don't understand that mind set when you're thinking about the health of the franchise moving forward
Can you provide any actual data, tape, or expert assessment supporting your belief that Darnold - assuming he doesn't get hurt AND repeats his achievements to-date - will be guaranteed to become the FQB? I'm not being snarky, I actually want to know how or why Darnold is any more of a guarantee than Mahomes or Watson (or any of the other QBs this year)?
It's not gut wrenching when there's light at the end of the tunnel I think most fans are smart now a days where they can live with a rebuild the right way when there's actual hope down the road
I would agree that no coaching staff or players would deliberately set out to lose a season. Now down the stretch and just a loss or two separates a team from 3rd or 4th to 1st overall, well... But I think we would be disillusioned to think that front office executives don't intentionally bring in certain players to underwhelm.
The winner of the Darnold derby is likely to have 1win or less. As bad as the Jets are I'd be surprised if they are that bad. Even if they are that bad they'll still find a way to unluck into an extra win or two.
That's easy to say now in March. Wait until week 8 when they're 0-8 or 1-7 and showing no signs of competence.
