Things are heating back up: Jets putting full-court press on Jason Taylor The Jets reportedly conducted a four-way conference call with the player rep for free agent Jason Taylor on Wednesday night. Jets owner Woody Johnson, GM Mike Tannenbaum, and coach Rex Ryan were all on the call with agent Gary Wichard. "He wants to get to the Super Bowl," a person with knowledge of the situation told the Newark Star-Ledger. "He wants to get a ring." Taylor's decision is expected "within the next week."
If that's the case, and the Dolphins and the Jets are the two teams involved, I think we all know where he's going. :jets:
Taylor will be signed by next wednesday, book it. It's no coincidence that these rumors come out, the day after Taylor had his closed door meeting with Sporano, and that the Jets immediately had a 4 way conference call with Taylors agent afterwards. The writing's on the way......he's going to be a Jet.
Agreed. I mean if this about being a champion, even the most myopic Marshall-bonered Dolphins fan can't actually believe that the Fins have a better chance at the VLT than the Jets. But what are the dance clubs in NJ like?
At worst, there's someone Griffen can learn from. If he signs then I'm not really buying the previous reports of Thomas' spot being safe.
Thomas' spot is definitely safe imo.... Bryan Thomas is a very good fit at strong side LB in a Rex Ryan defense, he plays extremely well against the run......in fact according to ProFootballFocus, Bryan Thomas was the second best OLB in the NFL last year against the run. On first and second downs, or short yardage situations we'd likely be rolling with Pace and Thomas out there. With Taylor coming in to replace Thomas on clear passing down situations. I also think Taylor could see some time on the weakside in place of Pace, depending on the situation. I'm very very confident that Bryan Thomas' spot on the depth chart is safe though.
At this point i'd think he would've made his decision. I mean what is he gonna do kidnap Sparano and hold him hostage until they sign him? "Hey JT, SHIT OR GET OFF THE POT"!
http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/36561185/ns/sports-player_news/ So if we get the DE in Jason Taylor what will the focus of the draft be? A young large DT to take over for Jenks when he retires shortly? That's the only weakness I see here.
If we sign Taylor, I suspect we'll take Odrick or Cody in round one......or trade back and grab a combo of Tyson Alualu and Ricky Sapp in round 2.
Taylor would probably play mostly 3-4 OLB, so we'd still have to address the D-Line. Probably someone like Odrick/Cody/Joseph in round 1.
Tannenbaum has said that the signing of Taylor will actually have very very little impact on their draft strategy as they're still all about best player available. He said only in an instance where they were completely split on two players and one was a OLB, MIGHT the signing of Taylor play a factor. So I don't think one way or the other our draft board will be changing too dramatically with or without his signing. If Brandon Graham is there at 29 for instance?.........I suspect we'll jump all over him.
Christ, it's really starting to piss me off how he can't just decide one way or the other. I almost feel like he's trying to sabotage the Jets on draft day right before he 'decides' to head back to Miami.
