i think he is kind of to tall to play OLB.. his Long Length would be better for him coming off the rush as a down linemen
If Pierre-Paul proves he's as athletic as Demarcus Ware, he'll fit in any style of defense. I think if JPP stays in school, he'll bulk up to around 280-285, and he'll draw a lot of Julius Peppers comparisons. Remember, he's only played a few years of football - JPP was always a basketball player. He still has a ton of untapped potential.
I say get him now and try to entice him to come out because next year we wont be in the hunt to get him he will surely be a top 5 pick... this year i could see him falling to us right where we are at unless he has an amazing 40 time.. I like the rawness to him where he can be molded still.. I think we could bulk him up just nice too with a nice NFL trainer
Im sure they have there ways of saying we want you to come out... But on another note he didnt do so good in the bowl game yesterday against NIU i think it was and there not a high quality Offense
I honestly can't even recall his big plays against RU because most of the game he was being handled pretty well. Also, Selvie took a lot of time off in that game (on 3rd downs strangely enough), and when he did, JPP moved over to the blind side vs AD. I think JPP's problem based on the RU game and even a bit of what I saw yesterday is that he doesn't know what to do on plays he isn't making a big play. He's learning the position, and the biggest lesson will be how to make an impact even when you're not making a sack or a tackle in the backfield. Teaching him how important things like simply holding his man up or keeping contain are will determine his ability to be an every down player.
JPP looked pretty good against NIU. It's frustrating to watch Selvie because he's always double teamed, basically every time.
I completely agree that JPP doesn't have a full grasp of the game yet. He'd could really use another year at the college level, but the advisory board will probably give him a great grade which could cause him to come out. He's only played a couple years of football. The kid's a work in progress, and he's definitely progressing. You can't coach his combination of size and athleticism - that's where he true value is. Pierre-Paul's attitude is awesome and it will help him go a long way.
To me JPP wasnt that aggressive DE you see that just keeps his motor going and is always around causing havoc.. Yeah he did okay but he is definitely a work in progress.
