Yeah he never brings anything new and is ALWAYS late on his 'breaking news'. Adam Schefter was and IMO is the best NFL reporter out there today. He said Favre to the Jets made huge sense even BEFORE Jets got the permission to talk to Favre. La Confora didn't say anything new in his answer, just a generalized answer. He said the 30 yrs old 2nd RB Ladainian is a potential over the hill player while a 32 years old starting LG, possibly the weakest link on the OL, will be difficult to replace. Some people like to create controversy, while some just don't even think about what they say. La Confora is that second kind.
If we're going to be throwing a lot more, I don't understand why you think Faneca, and his Sacks Allowed, would be fine. I don't think it's fine that he'd be responsible for Sanchez's blindside and has shown (the past 3 years if you count the 6.5 Sacks Allowed in his last season with Pitt) he's a liability. At his age, I don't see him improving in that facet. Continuity is definitely of utmost importance on the OL. But I wouldn't worry if it's only one guy being replaced. Sure they'll be a few growing pains -- but if Faneca's replacement allows less Sacks, then we've already improved in that aspect of the game.
True. After all we are only talking about a guard that plays between two Pro Bowlers. In '06 we played a rookie at LT and C which I think turned out pretty well for us.
we threw a heck of alot more in 2008 w/ a QB that always held the ball too long and he allowed about the same # that he did last year(and he's always given up sacks even when he was at the top of his game). It's comical how you guys act like he was putrid and held us back, we had one of the top 3 OLs in the game and w/ a link as weak as you guys calim that would not be possible. Hypothetically Faneca "allows a sack" b/c sanchez holds onto the ball too long and gets sack while next year our new LG doesn't allow a sack when sanchez rushes a pass and throws an INT- which is better? not all sacks are bad sacks and we'd have to evaluate each sack to make a judgement. Last year as a team we averaged 4.5 YPC, what if that goes doen to 4 or under 4 like it was the last time he wasn't playing LG for us? Are we better then? Maybe we will be better? but watching last year there wasn't one point in the year where I was worried about anyone on the OL.
2 rookie 1st round picks who played at big time programs and were used to a high level of competition. Not all players are ready to play as rookies, Vlad may or may not be ready but just b/c brick(who really took about 3 years to develop into a quality LT) and Mangold were ok as rookies doesn't mean all rookies will be ready day 1.
If you look at the moves, they all are not back breakers in terms of the team. If Holmes screws up this year, he is out of the lineup, and the Jets will have to "get by" with Edwards and Cotch, not too shabby with or without him. If Shonn goes down, we will have to "get by" with a hall of famer in LT. If Cromartie screws up, worst case scenario is that Kyle Wilson is thrust into a starting role earlier than anticipated. I don't believe they drafted Wilson in the first round with the idea that he will be a nickel back for the next five years. All the Jets moves have a backup plan, and they can do it with or without those players next year, or in most cases, this year.
That's the funniest part of it. His contacts are fucking terrible. He was supposed to be the replacement for Schefter, and he hasn't been able to do shit. Half the time Steve Wyche beats him to the scoops. I think his only value is the lazy eye. It gives me the reason to post this.
