Because it's essentially the off-season and it's the NFL thread anyway. What other news is there besides Deflategate? I've been assuming that the Patriots would at least try to restructure or else cut Revis. If they show any inclination of keeping him at $20 million, that's a big deal.
That's the point; this isn't news. That they "may" keep him at $20 mil always existed; it's inherent in the fact that they signed him to a contract for next year at that amount. It was nothing but speculation that they wouldn't. Nothing about this meaningless statement is news or a big deal.
Let's pray they do. Of course they won't but it's nice to dream. 20 million less for them to spend to start rebuilding with younger players.
I don't know there cap situation next year or other free agents, but if they can keep him at that price and also keep the super bowl team they have now together, why wouldn't they just excerise the option. He'll be another year older at the end, and while he'll be earning good money, he'll be back on the market, worth even less this time, looking for another 1 year deal.
He's basically playing for that contract in the Super Bowl I think. But NE has a lot of contracts up at the end of the season, I'm shocked this kind of conversation would come up now without having time to look at what pieces might be needed. Patriots aren't much for high $ players.
