Jordan is the similar to Ansah to me. A very gifted athlete who needs a lot of technique work at the next level. They are different in Ansah is a powerful at the point of attack where Jordan is a speed freak for a man of his height. Jordan most often uses a speed rush. Rarely trying to push a OT back but beat him outside or dipping under him to get to the QB. He is very good in space and has been seen covering receivers at the NCAA level. He needs to bulk up to do all that is required of a OLB in our defense. He is not the type of guy who is going to be able to set the edge in run D making him more or a passing down specialist out the gate if we were to draft him. He has good ability to chase the play down from behind and uses his length to disengage and make tackles. He is worthy of a first round pick on his freak athleticism and production. He would need work in the weight room and with Dunbar Tom become an every down player. I'd put him behind Werner and Jarvis jones and in line with Ansah. Should go somewhere in the 10 to 20 range.
While this is true, he really hasn't gone after that many OLBs in a while. While it's true that he prefers stout LBs, he also has shown a real attachment to the LBs with true linebacker skills since he's been here. The simple fact that he's never made a big attempt to go out and get a natural passrusher says a lot, which I think is based largely on his love of versatility. I saw an earlier comparison to Zeke Ansah. I'd say that while both are development types in the passrush aspect, they are totally different everywhere else. Jordan is actually polished at just about everything but pure passrush technique. He's a talented cover guy, excellent in space, and a terrific run defender, despite his slight frame. He's really just filling out his frame and time away from being a beast. I'd bet it doesn't take very long either, Oregon clearly wanted him to go easy on the added weight with all they did with him off the LOS.
The comparison was made to the fact that both are physical freaks that need a lot of work at the next level not their styles of play. I even mentioned that in the post. Jordan needs work on his pass rushing and hand placements overall. He is a decent run defender, I would not call him terrific. For TE few games I watched I saw him get enveloped by a few too many an OT to consider him more than average in the respect right now. He could very easily develop there with some weight room work and improving his hands. I agree with away from the Line work in coverage is amazing for a guy his size. I just feel that Rex likes stronger, stouter guys in his front 7. I could very easily be wrong because he has been caught up getting wow'd by how athletic guys like Cro and Holmes are.
I'm growing a serious obsession with Manti Te'o. I want him in green and white so bad. depending on where we are in the draft we should try and trade up, preferably with Oakland we have a lot we can give them. like David Harris along with a 2nd and a 4th. we give them a 2nd rd pick one they didn't have in the first place and a solid MLB to compensate for the loss of Te'o. OR we can give Oakland a 2nd, 3rd and a 2nd in the 2014 draft. then trade David Harris to a team for a 3rd or 4th.
We have too many holes to trade up. Doubly so for a guy that should be an ILB. He is a very good talent and better person, but we can not afford to give up quailty depth that will be inexpensive to grab one player this year.
It's all about how you use the players. If Te'O can rush the passer, I wouldn't mind him either. That of course means Jets defense from the perimeter should be able to contain the QB. And no, I am not kidding. One reason I absolutely hate David Harris is exactly because of this. He is so fucking slow. He is good for a run stopper. Nothing more. That won't fly in today's NFL. If Dunbar can get a sensible play out of Pouha and Ellis, I don't see why Te'O can't generate pressure. -------------------------------------------------------------- By now, you should have realized what I have in mind. Pressure from the edge is all nice and dandy, but the pressure up the middle almost always trumps the pressure from the edge. Geometrically, it is indeed the shortest distance to the QB - which means, if you know how to generate that, then there won't be a nice, safe pocket for the QB to step up. Now, the million-dollar question is then, how do we create the pressure up the middle? Late Jim Johnson, from the Eagles, used to generate pressure up the middle extremely effectively. His method was a double A-gap flood. Yep. NT, 3 ILBs, all flood into the A gap. C will get NT. one of the guards will get one of the ILBs, but the last ILB will have a free lane to the QB. Now, if Wilk gets his routine double team, then it will become that much deadly. If Coples starts becoming anything useful on the other side, then you'd better watch out - 5 guys will be making the life of a QB very miserable. Really, the QB won't know where the pressure is going to come from. It could come from the edge (OLB), up the middle (double A-gap) or from some complex zone blitz stuff (which Rex is renowned for.) This of course means Jets must be quick at the ILBs - which means, if Te'O is on board, it is more than natural to assume Davis would be the other ILB, not Harris (unless on obvious running downs - which won't be much.) Thus, if Te'O is available when the Jets are on the clock (with other OLB prospects gone) I wouldn't be against Te'O pick - rather, if that happens, I'd like to see Harris traded as well. (with his albatross contract as well.)
Thinking about it today I wouldn't be surprised if Jones fell to us at 9, the draft can very likely shape up like this IMO KC- Luke Joeckel OT (KC needs an OT after albert walks this offseason, plus they don't want Geno) JAC- Star Lotulelei DT OAK- Bjoern Werner DE PHI- Geno Smith QB DET- Damontre Moore DE CLE- Manti Te'o ILB ARI- Taylor Lewan OT BUF- Tyler Wilson QB NYJ- Jarvis Jones
I sincerely doubt that Jarvis, Te'o, and Werner are all gone before we pick. I'd be very happy with any one of those three.
There is a problem with this. Nose gets blocked in one A-gap, ILB gets blocked in the other A-gap. Which A-gap can the other ILB run through? Neither, because guys are in the A-gaps. He would be forced to run into the nearest gap -- the B-gap to that side -- Which of course is blocked by another man. You can't send two guys through one gap, just like you can't put two pegs in one hole.
I would take Teo in a heart beat if he was there. However, i don't see him getting further than the Lions at 5.. That team needs an attitude adjustment. They can also use a stud ILB to maximize their interior paired with excellent DT's... Would be a great fit there, and exactly what the team could use. As i have a soft spot for Detroit, might just have to root for them as my NFC team if they land Teo..
I love Te'o but MLB is far from a need for this team. OLB would be ideally what we get and I'm against moving Te'o to OLB. So, Dion Jordan from Oregon, or Mingo from LSU would be the backup choices for me if Jones isn't available.
Jones Werner Moore If not trade back. Some of you guys are in love with Manti so much you guys can't see he is not a good fit for our D. Harris is staying, Davis will probably have better combine numbers than Te'o. ILB is not that much of a need, but we are getting killed by our lack of OLB. We don't have the luxury to pick whatever this year.
idk, seems a capable coach despite the dreadful season. Detroit needs some smarter players on the field, and more character in the locker room. Not unlike the Jets in that regard..
What about Demario Davis? Maybe he becomes a starter for the Jets this season, this offense has no skilled players on it, and who knows how Santonio will come back or if Keller is resigned. We need some skilled players on the offense, not more defensive players.
