Seems like two mutually exclusive ideas. Griffen is oversized for his position and his weight is affecting his ability to close out games, I'll give you that. But you're actually trying to compare him to Gholston? Gholston - almost exclusive 4-3 DE; stiff player with no fluidity; moves well in a straight line, cannot shift laterally with any fluidity; no pass rushing moves aside from a bull rush; fails to separate from any blocker. Griffen - experience in a 3 point and 2 point stance; dynamic, fluid player; multiple pass rush moves including outside rush, hand fighting, and spin/swim techniques; routinely gets seperation but retains the ability to bull rush through linemen. They don't compare at all.
No, they are not very comparable when you match them up from a physical stand point. Technique is totally different as well, I agree. I'm not trying to harp on trying to compare the two from a physical standpoint. They are comparable in the mental part of this game though. They both looked lost in numerous games they played, they both were very inconsistent on the football field, and they both were more familar with their hand in the dirt. Neither player strikes me as true football players, simply because they just don't have that desire or heart to play this game.. If they did, both players would've absolutely dominated at the college level, this didn't happen. Instead you only got to see their true potential in spurts.
