The study I linked was of WR's with ACL surgery between 2013 and 2017. 9 of 29 failed to return to play after the surgery. The vast majority of the rest returned to play at a lesser level than before the injury. Controls were selected for each player in the study from WR's of similar age, experience and demonstrated ability. The control group significantly outplayed the injury group in the seasons following the injury. Lots of smoke is being blown about Jameson Williams because his agents are *desperate* to get him picked high despite the injury. They know that typically a WR is going to drop 3 rounds or so based on this type of injury and they are doing everything they can to get him picked in the 1st instead of the 4th.
As good as these guys are, it's also because the league continues to expand its reliance on passing to move the ball. Even teams that are "run heavy" use the pass to open up the running game. It's a trend that's been growing for 20 years, and now finally, maybe, the Jets are getting on board.
