Should be, that is if he is not blowing all his money on cars and so on. 40 million, alot of money for doing nothing.
If you ask me, Russell is the much bigger bust. Leaf was a interception machine and a media disaster. But at least he worked hard in the offseason, CARED what the media thought of him, and after being cut by the chargers worked his way back for acouple more stints. Russell had alittle more success on the field than leaf, but had absolutely no work ethic, could've cared less about his team winning or losing, and let codiene syrup destroy would could've been a great career. He's essentially a complete waste of space and one of the most hateable athletes of all time.
Leaf is not the only competition. Art Schlichter has to be considered too. He was so bad as a 1st round bust that his team drafted a QB in the 1st round the following year.
Prior to Russel, Leaf was considered the biggest bust of all time, not only because he was a bad player, but because he was a giant douche who blew his top in front of the media numerous times. Schlichter just had the honor of being a horrible player, he didnt have the media explosions leaf did. And even if he did, the media wasn't so rampant and focused on them in the way they did with leaf...
Opinion. Not fact. Just because Schlichter was fucking up on and off the field before you were born or before you followed football does not mean he was not a colossal bust. Let me mention something for a second time. Schlichter was so atrocious that his team went and drafted a QB in the 1st round the year after the team drafted him in the 1st round. Imagine if Mark Sanchez was so pathetic as a rookie and the Jets were so utterly disappointed in him that they spent their 2010 1st round pick on another QB.
If that is true, doesn't necessarily mean he's broke. maybe he had no equity in it and it was upside down and he figure he just go into foreclosure rather than keep paying it. or maybe he just forgot to pay the mortgage for 90 -120 days lol. i'm sure it wasn't his owner occupied residence
1998 is infinitely superior to 2007, even if you take out Manning. Hasselbeck is a solid starter, and Batch is a backup any team would love to have. Even Griese is/was decent. In 2007, the only guy who might make even a decent backup is Thigpen IMO. Beck and Edwards are wastes of roster spots. The Philly offense looked listless under Kolb but sparkled under Dog Killer, which tells you that Kolb is a bigger waste than Beck or Edwards because he costs more! Quinn is another bust.
Didn't Schlichter get involved in gambling or something? I seem to remember some high draft pick QB getting in trouble about that, but it was a really long time ago.
I actually remember Art Schlichter putting the wood to the Jets one time a million years ago. So I got that going for me.
General Opinion is that Leaf is the biggest bust of all-time. There is no "fact" when it comes to a topic like this, so I'm sorry if it came across that way. It made it easier to draft a QB in back to back years when Schlicter played, because the money wasn't as insane as when Russel was drafted. Because of the money you were forced to play the guy, or at least keep him around for several years. I also never meant to imply Schlicter wasn't a disaster, just that he wasn't seen by the general population as the bigger fuckup because of the media coverage and the numerous times Leaf blew his top in the media room, and it put his general arrogance on display all the time. But you are right, Schlicter had come and gone before I was born. Doesn't mean I don't think he was a gigantic bust, but I still believe Leaf was worse, and possibly even Russel as well...
Why ? He conned the NFL and Raiders into giving him $40 MM and he's set for life (unless he blows it). Never had to work a day and didn't. And still got $40 MM. He's not as dumb as we all claim when you think about it !!
