Well there goes nacho's confidence for next season! If he felt the pressure of Tebow breathing down his neck, he is really gonna feel it when Russell shows him how to throw! If we are even looking into this even remotely as a possibility, it shows how far we are away at the Qb position!
Throw it against the wall & see what sticks. Why not?Sign him for vet minimum...worst thing that happens is he still stinks & gets released at the end of TC
Usual bullshit by Jets beat-writers. Step 1 - Make up story (informal discussions? please... I expect them to have informal discussions about any FA) Step 2 - Report the story and accuse the Jets of being a circus Please... I don't believe anything beat-writers write anymore.
I'm not saying he'll make it but we have seen it throughout history where guys get 2nd or 3rd chances and finally get it. Vinny wasn't a bad QB before us but he was never great until 1998 w/ us. A Doug flutie in Buf in '98, Jim Plunkett, Tommy maddox led Pitt to the playoffs one year, Rich gannon, Stan Humphries, Michael Vick in Philly, Chris Chandler, Wash won a SB w/ a washed up Doug Williams, Steve Beurlein, Jeff Garcia, ... The league is littered w/ QBs being given 2nd/3rd chances and succeeding. perhaps the greatest QB of all time was given a 2nd chance- Johny Unitas. Again, the chances he succeeds are remote(is that better?:jets but it's a no risk situation for ANY team and a team w/ cap issues looking for QB help should look at a guy like that to get a cheap player at a premium position.
I'm sensing your faith in Sanchez is slipping. The problem with him is if he sucks we are back where we started... no good qb no good backup.
Not all but you always need options. I still feel mark can be a quality starter in this league again, he needs weapons but in the event Mark can't we still need options.
The difference is those guys you listed actually wanted to succeed. They weren't lazy bitches like Russell. The guy doesn't even deserve a second chance in this league. Fortunately, I don't think the Jets are actually interested. All it will take is a 5 min interview for them to realize he doesn't belong in this league.
again, I'm not saying it will work but ther's absolutely no risk involved. I'd have no issue if we signed him. how do we know those guys weren't cosnidered lazy or didn't have certain knocks about them? it's easy to look back now and see later success but they all had issues when they were failing.
You really think he's a better option than Tebow at this point? Not to argue, you take enough shit as it is. Just curious. Id prefer Vince Young over Russell as far as shitty backups go.
Again, I'm not saying sign him or don't sign him but looking at him is ok. If they think he can compete they sign him to a minimum deal w/ no risk. Tebow is gone either way, a move for Russell wouldn't stop the Jets from signing a vet to compete w/ Sanchez. Russell would be a guy they are trying to rehab/develop.
if he was as serious as it would take he still wouldnt be over 300 pounds...he began training for an NFL return last year.
I don't see the problem. Why not bring in a talented QB who had work ethic issues in the best to see if theyve gotten better? He's seeing a personal trainer and seeking out help from other ex players so maybe he has straightened up. Either way, to react this way over the Jets just DISCUSSING him is absurd.
