Only way I'd even consider Adams at 6, is if I were confident he could play FS in a Cover 1.
That's what Bowles needs, and that is a much rarer skillset than simply being a good SS or Cover 2 S.

Have you even seen Adams play? I doubt it. If you had, you couldn't make such a stupid post.

No, I don't. It just convinces me more that you have no idea what you're watching when you watch games and players. If you think that all Adams has is leadership, you are absolutely clueless and don't understand anything your eyes see.

You got next weeks powerball numbers. Everyone on this board has watched a draft and scouts, pundits, Kiper all rave about can't miss prospects. How many mock drafts have you posted and read about can't miss talent? People that do this for a living get it wrong all the time.

LSU fans weren't exactly the smartest of fans.

The Jets defense and run game got Sanchez there. You are lost, child. McDougle was drafted 2 rounds early and every pro scout knew that.

I didn't say anything about his leadership everyone else has. When I'm looking at a football game leadership ability doesn't even register. I'm thinking can this guy stop a ball carrier or a pass. Is he gonna transform the Jets defense right now? Highly doubt it. Until the Jets get some pressure on a QB Hooker, Adams, Lattimore, Conley will all get roasted and toasted.

So weak. Really did the defense score any points? Our defense gets first round talent every year yet we aren't going to any playoff games. I don't doubt McDougle was drafted early never mention that just stated that Idzik drafted him and he was injured. Is that correct?

Number 1 defense in the league, best offensive line and best running game. We would go quarters without scoring tds.

Why are we comparing McDougle to Hooker anyway? Hooker is light years more talented same with Adams. Your argument has no legs to stand on.

See that's the problem with you offense only draft guys. Always thinking the Jets have one pick and one pick only. Jets hopefully can come away with an edge rusher, safety, TE, some lineman depth.

Wow did I even mention Hooker and McDougle as comparable talents. I said they were both injured. Why on earth would you want to take an injured player #6. One thing about McDougle he played 4 years in college and was only injured his senoir year. I can't see Hooker going in the top 10. Adams will not be available to us 49ers will probably take him. Lattimore is the one I'm worried we will take.

Offense only in the first round. I could care less what they do after that. 1st round offensive talent is what has been lacking on this team for 9 years. It also coincides with the team not reaching any playoffs since that time. That is the correlation and thinking with going offense in the first round. Maybe if we can get some guys that can take a pass or run to the house we can be less dependent on the defense. Close games we can run out the clock instead of going to the prevent defense which we all know prevents your team from winning. Maybe just maybe we won't be kicking fields goals being dowm by 41 points. Balance out your team that is what the succesful ones do.

Which should tell you just how critical a good QB is, and makes so much more of an impact than ANY "D" guy. This is why the Jets need to keep diving into the QB Pool until they find one. Yes, that even means using their first pick IF THEY THINK THAT QB CAN BE THEIR GUY. Because no Safety, CB, LB, or DL is going to make a bigger impact by themselves, unlike a QB who will.

And to be clear, I agree that if Macc doesn't think any of these QBs are better than what he has, he should pass, but if he doesn't take a QB first he ought to take a RB or two-way TE to help whatever QB they do use. That will make a bigger impact than any "D" guy except maybe an elite pass rusher, of which - aside from Garrett - there really aren't any slam dunks.

And finally, I agree that defense is important, but the Jets hyper-focus on it hasn't gotten them anywhere. You say "Take what the draft gives you", well it can give you a possible FQB, or an elite RB, or elite TE, or even an elite WR (though I don't think this is as big a need as the others), but it won't give these to you after the early 2nd round, whereas safeties and CBs and LBs will all be there after that.

I know none of this will change your mind, but I wanted to point out that in your own words, you all but acknowledge that even with the #1 defense the Jets still didn't get to a SB, let alone win one, so don't you think they ought to try a different approach for once?

Not taking a qb at 6. Would in the later rounds.

Welp if you are looking at one side of the ball, then I can't really value your opinion. Jets have more than 1 pick and this argument is foolish on your end.

Okay, let's look at it another way.

Let's say that they take Hooker or Adams (or Lattimore or one of the other DBs tossed around), and let's even say that they stay healthy and live up to their billing. How many points/game will they score? Maybe, MAYBE, they run a pick 6 a couple times in the season, how does that overshadow the 2-3 TDs/game a good QB will account for? You might argue that they should be given credit for STOPPING the other team from scoring, and that's true, BUT, if the Jets can't score in return, what is the net gain? And this is exactly what the Jets have suffered from. They can hold down opponents - usually - but eventually their defense gets worn down because they can't stay on the field forever.

And of course there is no guarantee that Hooker will stay healthy, or that any of them will actually live up to their college record. So to insist that you would only take one of these guys at 6 but not a QB - assuming that Macc thinks he can be a FQB - makes no sense to me in light of the above.

And believe me, I've been trying and trying to understand your POV because based on your posts you usually make a lot of sense, but going back to your statement, "Number 1 defense in the league, best offensive line and best running game. We would go quarters without scoring tds. ", the only way I can see you justifying NOT taking a QB with the first pick is your belief that none of them are worth it, but how can you be so certain that Adams or Hooker are? And even if they are, how can they make a bigger impact than a QB? The only way is if the QB doesn't play, or is a bust. That could happen, but it can happen to Adams or Hooker or anyone, the field of past drafts are littered with mistakes made on "sure" bets.

But maybe this is they way I see it: If the Jets miss out on the next great DB, will that have as big an impact as if they miss out on their FQB? I don't think so. After all when Revis went to Tampa Bay the Jets actually improved their record the next year.

Bottom line: I don't see how you can make such a categorical statement like "I wouldn't take a QB at 6 or in the first round", but at the same time say that you would take a DB there given the comparative impact of those positions.

The goal is not to score the most points but to score more points than your opponent.

Given the lack of talent on our defense in general, especially in the secondary a safety that can help stop the run and the pass can make a big difference.

As we have learned from the selections of Sanchez and Smith using a high draft pick on a QB can set you back for years not just because of the opportunity cost (the stud you could have taken with that selection) but because that investment will force the coaches and management to ride that QB (passing up the opportunity to take other potentially better QBs later) in an attempt to justify the selection (egos at this level of management a large and errors are not easily admitted).

With that said, looking at this draft and the players available the value at QB is not there at the sixth overall pick even if we have the good fortune to take the first QB off the board. If we are talking about the second or third QB taken (at #6) the value is even worse.

Taking a shot at a player like Davis Webb (who could potentially be the best QB in the draft) or having Watson fall into our laps at pick 37 may not be the best pick we could make there but presents a lower risk and a greater value as the opportunity cost is lower and it would be easier for us to save face and move on if he does not work out.

Crying about the need for a QB (or any other position) and reaching in desperation for the wrong player at the "right postion" is the path to failure.

I can say the same about the defense ONLY crowd. They only see Adams, Hooker, Lattimore. I looked at the NFL Top 10 drafts and some of those teams are still drafting good. All I want is a steady stream of talent on both sides of the ball. Its obvios they took that approach on the defensive side espcially the DL. Let's try it throughout the rest of the team. I like Macc and feel he has the scouting background to get the Jets there. But if he takes another DL and claim it was the BPA he will need to depart.

The thing is I am not defensive only. I am about making the team better. Your assumptions are again incorrect.

I don't want a lineman or corner at 6 either. I want the best player that can have an impact on the team.
