Jamal Adams: No Game Plan for Mayfield

Discussion in 'New York Jets' started by Since1969, Sep 26, 2018.

  1. No we’re mad that he keeps forgetting to “refuel”,shift to the proper gear, & properly manage the “pit crew” w any form of discipline or accountabiity.

Nobody is immune to the talent level.Nobody expected a winning team..the fact that Bowles is still attracting justified criticism in a year that should by all accounts grant him immunity & autonomy speaks for itself. This team hasnt lost bc of talent yet this season. Its been silly self inflicted mishaps that suggest lack of focus, lack of discipline & lack of poise. And when weve seen it multiple times before & nothing changes thats on the head coach.

I dont doubt the jets will get the talent sorted bc eventually picking in the top 10 every year leads to talent. And when that window opens i dont want a crumby coach like Bowles holding the team back w continued lack of discipline & stubborn short sighted tactics.

The cohesion argument has a expiration date & this fan base is not stupid enough to buy the “year 2 rebuild” talk bc he was here 2 yrs prior to that when it was a veteran win now team that had similar issues & lack of success.

I admit, when I heard his comments I thought it sounded bad, but in hindsight the QB's are similar enough that preparing for one would mirror the prep for the other. The difference is Baker was more effective than Taylor. I just think Jamal speaks from the heart and without filter, which is refreshing...

that's not true at all. he benched wilk several times. and wilk is now gone. he's disciplined other players. he's shown he'll start he better player and not go with older vets just because. He had this team come out swinging against Det in a big upset on monday night to open the season and we've been close in every game. Our defense is ranked 8th. that's pretty dam good. out offense is ranked 21st which isn't good but all things considered with out o-line and a rookie QB not that bad. NE offense is ranked 25th with brady at QB, gronk at TE and bellichick coaching them. we complained about no sacks but we are ranked 10th right now in the NFL in sacks and tied for 3rd in INTs. we are getting sacks, we are getting turnovers, our defense is playing well, and we've been close in every game. Sure we've been far from perfect and are 1-2 but we are still much better then we should be on paper. Were held back by a rookie QB who's learning, a new OC who was out of the NFL for a few years and a limited gameplan on offense due to a bad o-line we can't get a run game going and can't give darnold time. We all expected that so IDK why people are mad that we are getting what we expected and still feel the need to blame bowles for not being perfect. as an overall picture we are better then expected and better then we were on "paper" same for last year when we were predicted to pick 1st and win maybe 1-2 games tops. bowles deserves credit for that as well. It goes both ways. he makes mistakes but also does good for the team. What i blame bowles for is allowing players to lose their composure and get dumb penalties and the lack of disipline at times but hey it's a young team. Even coughlin had ODB doing dumb shit all the time and he's as much of a hard ass as it gets

IMHO TB is finished. his mandate was to get the team to play better and develop the QB. Sam look like a rookie last week which is to be expected and his hesitation was IMHO hamstrung buy the play calling of the OC.

The team imploded when they need to step up and that is a hall mark of this HC teams. Its the way that the team is losing that is troublesome and frankly telling. The lack of situational awareness with penalties, missed assignments , holding WR - been a problem with this team and still is, OC calling redundant plays.... the common denominator is TB.

In four years what has improved under this coach? Maybe some knows but I am at a loss ...

I get that you don't agree that Bowles isn't a good HC, but to say those of us who believe that he isn't are "crazy" is insulting. I, and others who feel the same, have provided ample reasons for our assessment, and those reasons are not farfetched, illogical, or "crazy" In fact, coaches with better records than Bowles, or in the job less than him, have been fired, so it's not unheard of, or "crazy". If you want to continue having respectful exchanges, use some common courtesy.

why do you twist words? i never said people who don't believe he is good is crazy. what i said was things he gets blamed for. it's like a player falls down and trips and it's bowls fault for not checking if his shoes are tied. Obviously i'm exaggerating but i see bowles blamed for many things that aren't in his job description. it's not on him to develop a QB. that's what the OC and QB coaches do for example. why do you think teams have a whole coaching staff? you think HC go around and develop every rookie and call every play on both sides of the ball? each part of the front office and coaching staff has their role to play but often people see a HC as the end all be all when it isn't

Bowles shouldn't be blamed for anything and everything. But as HC, he is responsible for all facets of the game. He absolutely needs to make sure a FQB like Darnold develops even if he's not actually the one who's molding Sam. He needs to make sure all units are playing to the best of their abilities and if they aren't, correct the failings. If that means replacing a coordinator or coach, so be it.

It is ABSOLUTELY the HC's job to develop the QB. Just because he doesn't do it himself doesn't mean that he isn't responsible. It's TOTALLY his job to make sure that it happens, and if he creates a game plan that is ultraconservative and goes against what Sam does well, he is absolutely responsible. QB is THE most important position on the team, and the Jets just used their #1 pick, the #3 pick in the draft on Darnold and you think it's not his (Bowle's) responsibility to make sure that he (SAM) develops, particularly when Bowles pronounced him "ready" and made him the starter? ROFLMAO

I didn't twist your words, I bolded them and responded to them, which by extension labeled anyone who calls Bowles out for mistakes that fall under his responsibility are "crazy" - your word, not mine. And then you try to support your claim of "crzy criticism" using examples that no one here has used AFAIK. No one has blamed Bowles for not making sure a player's shoe laces are tied. We HAVE blamed him for allowing a lack of discipline to affect games, and not making appropriate changes n the game plan, but those aren't "crazy". Debatable? Sure but it's annoying when you try to dismiss these legitimate criticisms by saying they're "crazy", which means the person making them is "crazy". No twisting of words, simply calling them what they are.

And it IS on him to make sure the QB is developed properly and that game plans work to his strengths. How can you possibly absolve a HC of that responsibility? Of course the details are left to the position coaches and coordinators, but Bowles has to sign off on them, and has the power - and responsibility - to accept them or override them. That's why the job title is HEAD Coach.

It’s what he does. Disagree with him and “you’re crazy, you don’t understand football, don’t don’t watch football, you don’t know what you’re looking at, only I understand it, I know better than you”.

The irony is that he is one of the worst posters here, and he's the one who has little or no understanding.

I think Bowles should have had them prepared for Mayfield. They have not won a game in 2 years and the Jets were a prime target to eased Mayfield in even without the injury to Taylor. Their coach is on the hot seat and was letting it all hang out. Bowles thinks he safe and will be here for decades.

Thank god we have you here to bail us out and show us how to maintain the continuity we've grown so accustomed to.

What would you see as that first fundamental change, and why are we looking for it in year four of the Bowles Era?

I understand that part for sure but the only thing he could do is fire the QB coach/OC and even then depending on the team most coaches don't have a say in the staff or at least not a complete say. that falls on the GM mostly. also the point that he can't develop a QB is made even dumber since he never had a QB to develop. geno, hack, petty were all trash. nobody is developing them.
no it's not but I expected that from you based on your history. if your gonna spend this much time on an NFL forum maybe learn how the NFL works?
no you twisted them. i said some of the things people blame bowles for is crazy and then gave an example to you later to speicfy. things like refusing to play rookies (completly proven wrong) developing QBs (not part of his job and he's never had a QB to develop anyway). blaming him for lack of in game adjustments, poor use of the clock, lack of disipline from the players (dumb penalties), wasting timeouts etc are all legit complaints i share about him as well. I'm just fair in placing blame where it's due. still at it stands bowles is a defensive guy and our D ranks top 10 in points allowed, points scored, sacks, yards allowed, and INTs so i'd say we are looking good in that area even without having a stud pass rusher.

the fundamental change started 2 years ago. building from the ground up. cutting dead weight and older players. bringing in youth. creating a winning environment. it starts at the top (GM) and in the short period of time so far we've done it well. as i pointed out the rams took 7 years to get where they are and les snead has been an excellent GM in that span turning that team around. Jets look to start getting to that point as early as next season

    Oh, if only...

Please do not try to tell us that going from 10-6 to 5-11, twice, has anything to do with a winning environment. I don't care about the Rams - their situation has nothing to do with the situation here.

Further, your claim above that the Head Coach does not have the responsibility to develop a quarterback is absolutely ridiculous. It is the responsibility of the Head Coach to develop every player that wears the colors. If you can't understand that simple premise you need to look in the mirror each time you fall back on your sorry, unsupported line that others here don't know anything about the game.

i only used the rams because another posted pointed them out as a team who got a new coach and are great now but ignored the 7 years the GM spent building up that team to hand the new coach over a stacked roster.

and no it's not the HCs job to develop players. you think they really have time and expertise in every position on the field to spend with 54 players (over 60 if you count PS players) to help them improve? literally impossible. the HC position is more managerial then it is Xs and Os

  20. Not that i agree w this but lets roll w it for the time being..

If Bowles responsibility isnt X’s & O’s,isnt player development & he cant be judged on wins & losses..what CAN ge be judged on?

Your painting a picture of someone who bares ultimate power but somehow isnt accountable for critical aspects of a successful football operation.

Lets bring this full circle for ha-ha’s:If Bowles holds so little control over the fate of the organization why cling so hard to him staying on? If hes a figurehead w no substance what difference does it make if hes here or not?How would he even be affecting cohesion if he bares no occupational duties?

Might be time for Todd’s meeting w The Bobs.
