Mahomes hasn't even taken a snap regular season and he's a better pick at #6 than Adams? Gimme a break. Watson I can say could have been a better choice but his injury history now puts me off a bit (2 torn ACLs).
You are expecting rookies to be all pro caliber, that's unrealistic. Adams and Maye both have been very solid, Adams I think needs to improve in coverage, as he's been primarily in the box. Claiborne has regressed as the year as continued and Burris has been MIA. The depth will improve, but I don't think the Jets need a star cornerback. They drafted 2 this past year, but they were injured. I expect the Jets to go and improve the offensive line and address the QB position. They don't have a choice really, if they don't address it they won't be back the next year. The Chiefs looked at their situation and saw virtually no holes on the roster, however they did believe Smith was regressing and couldn't open up the deep passing game. He's quieted the critics for this year. The Jets aren't nearly in the same situation, and they could not afford to roll out Mahomes, who has severely bad mechanics.
We could have gotten a linebacker to do that when we needed a playmaking safety. If he's making a ton of tackles around or beyond the line of scrimmage that means your D line is getting pushed around. But we take tons of those in the first round every year too. Didn't Ingram run for a 50 yard TD today? Its just a badly coach team. I believe there is some talent on the Jets. But the coaching staff are morons and no amount of talent can help that....none.
No not true I wasn't expecting all pro caliber play from Adams and Maye. I watched Adams in college and wasn't impressed with him so expecting all pro play from him was never gonna happen. I do hope you are right and the Jets do address some other positions but I hope there is someone else making those selection. I don't want Bowels or Macc misusing our massive salary cap dollars. I prefer someone else do the evaluations and signings.
If you follow the conversation I always said Watson should have been the pick. Just because Mahomes hasn't taken a snap doesn't mean he's not good and would have addressed a major need for the Jets. You also missed the point that even though the Chiefs had a QB they felt they could start the grooming process to replace, whereas the Jets have no QB worthy of playing next year on the roster and they didn't take one. That is the difference in competent organizations vs incompetent ones like the Jets. Has Adams won any games for the Jets this year?
We don't know how good Mahomes is or isn't, but I don't think that had we drafted him at 6 he would be showing a lot of promise so far. He is like Josh Allen, are 1st round projects that shouldn't really be seeing major minutes. Imo i didn't like Mahomes coming out but he went into one of the best possible situations for him. Not having to play and learning under one of the most experienced coaches there. I think we could agree that if there was another Watson-esque QB available last draft (ala one who could start day 1) we should've taken him. I don't know if Adams has singlehandedly won any games for us this year but he has taken on a huge role as a rookie, and contributed significantly to some of our wins.
You’re likely the only one who wasn’t impressed with Adams especially when he was considered not only a top 5 player coming out but one of the best prospects in the draft. Especially when they are using him as a hybrid LB that’s mostly playing 2-5 yards off the ball...he’s wearing many hats including playing slot corner, OLB, and rarely playing deep safety. Again he’s playing what Eric Berry is doing (Berry doesn’t play nearly as much in the box as Adams does though) and he’s doing this as a rookie. He’s going to be a good one.
Mac will probably draft a DT and some CB's in the first few rounds. He will keep outsmarting the other 31 teams and win the draft. This is a Defense driven league more than ever. Who needs a franchise QB? Let's just reach for a QB outside of the first round because Mac and team are like QB whisperers who can turn crap into gold.
The Jets have drafted more QB's than any other team in the last decade, including the Cleveland Browns, and they still haven't gotten it right. Expecting them to getting something right is like waiting for snowfall in Bermuda. I'll take that bet that both safeties will be with the Jets after 7 years. And if they are not, it's only because the Jets won't pay what they demand.
they would've redshirted him. I guarantee you Mahomes wouldn't see the field this year. Petty would just play instead. However, next year things would've looked a lot better at the QB position. Now, the Jets gotta fight for their QB of the future.
Not only will Jamal Adams not win DROY, but the kid wants Bowles back. Trade him to move up and get a qb. Lol
Then they shouldn't be in this business if they can't get it right. The Jets haven't drafted any first round QB's since Sanchez that won't cut it. But they have no problem taking scrubs on defense every year like they are on to something. Here's the kicker. With a defensive head coach, first round defensive talent every year they still suck. Now that takes talent. Ok by 2023 both Adams and Maye will be off the Jets roster Bomber. Adams probably a little earlier.
Sorry not even close to seeing that. Why is he playing linebacker at all, we have those. What we didn't have is a playmaking safety and we still don't. If Bowles had a clue (really asking alot there) he wouldn't put that much on a rookie plate. Becaue he was getting run over and missing tackles against the Saints. He looked bad yesterday.
OK... that has nothing to do with Adams though. You're criticizing the pick and the coaching, which are completely different arguments.
If posters wait to complain about passing up on Mahomes until he starts actually tearing up the league, then Mac apologists would then shout hindsight is 20/20. You should respect the fact they are proclaiming that now and attack them if/when Mahomes becomes a bust.
Or we could have taken Watson instead of a box safety that we didn't need. Watson has more TD's than the Jets and he's been injured since October. Contributing is nice but when your team can't score and can't stop anyone it doesn't work for me. You drafting people high in the draft they are expected to make more of an impact. Only Jets fan poo poo their accomplishments. I guess that goes with the territorty of constantly losing.
You're right. But since Macc & Bowles were hired together I loop them together. They are equally bad at their respective jobs. Macc hasn't drafted good and Bowels hasn't coached good.
