There are some players that just don't belong on ST's. I think Jalin Marshall may turn into a good Wr, but he shouldn't be on the return team. He just doesn't have the judgement for it.
The season is over, so I don't mind the staff seeing if he can improve. According to his draft profile, he was an excellent returner in college. Maybe a bigger Ohio state fan can confirm. I'm willing to give him some time to get comfortable. Who knows what could happen. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
I was watching the Niners game after the Jets one and saw Kerley catch a punt and run a great return - right up until the point he tripped over and fumbled it away....
The Jets would be better off putting nobody back there and rushing and extra man. For ever ball that bounces and rolls forward there is one that bounces back in the kickers direction. If we blocked one punt the entire season the net gain would be more than we have gotten from Marshall. Heck, we might even get a touch back or two from the balls caught inside the 10.
Kerley averages 9.3 yards/return on punt returns for his career. His average ties him for 130th all-time, and is within 3.5 yards/return of the all-time leader. It's nothing amazing but he was a damn good and safe returner. People who disliked him as a returner were ignorant. I'd take him over Marshall in a heart beat.
At least Kerley returned one for 6 once. I think the same game Stephen Hill caught 2 TDs Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Kerley was a safe punt returner, but do not let stats fool you. Playing on a darn good defensive team, that caused a lot of punts, Kerley averaged less than 1.5 punt returns per game for all but his last year with the Jets, that is a lot of fair catches. For example in 2012 playing in 16 games, he returned 19 punts and led the league in fair catches with 36.
I get that. But how many great punt returners are out there? 2 or 3? I'll take a safe returner whom knows when to fair catch, when to let punts go, etc. than the dumby we have back there right now. Punt returner can be a so called 'even' statistic as long as it's not a negative. It's extremely bad when it becomes a negative.
Without a doubt! Kerley was a very reliable returner and we would be lucky to have someone his equal right now. I also think he got smarter over the years and did not fair catch as many returnable balls toward the end. It is hard to change people's opinions once formed, and I think Kerley's rep for making some fair catch decisions early in his career stuck with him.
Watch, Jalin will return one for 7 against the Pats and TGG will create a "Jalin Appreciation Thread" where members can state how impressed they are with him and what a genius Macc was for stealing him in the 12th round and how you called it from day one!
It's obviously too late for that, except for maybe RobA and TDK, who I don't think even take themselves seriously anymore. And what's the point of taking yourself seriously as a Jets fan, anyway? We've already smashed your own manhood into overcooked ramen by now. It's like pretending to be the toughest prison bitch in D Block.
Lol....this shit has sucked the life out of me too. There's still a flicker down deep 'cause I love the Jets. But the future looks bleak, and the NFL sucks at this point anyway..... Go Mets and Rangers
Rookie Devin Smith brings a kickoff out of the endzone vs Buffalo last year & fumbles. Bill return it for a TD. Completely changes the game's momentum & the Jets ultimately lose. Rookie Jalin Marshall in KC week 3 brings a kickoff out of the endzone & fumbles. Chiefs return it for a TD. Down 10-0, - it becomes 17-0 & completely changes the game's momentum & the Jets ultimately lose. And then his performance last Sunday vs the Rams.............whilst still a rookie. Hey Todd, --- see a pattern here at all?
