First time HC's often get another shot after they blow out in their first job. It's unusual for a guy to be one and done in the NFL. Because the Jets won't pay for a proven HC they wind up hiring a lot of first timers and so it is not unusual that there are a lot of ex-Jets HC's that get one more opportunity.
They could double up and fly a banner. Idzik is a Consultant on the Jaguars. I couldn't see any of it when I hit the link, but that's great.
I've always liked Caldwell and thought he was a good choice when he interviewed with the Jets after Bowels was let go. However, it appears he's been out of coaching since 2019 to address health issues. He's also about to turn 67. My guess is Jacksonville would want to hire someone a bit younger.
There's quite a dicotomy within the JAGS fan base..... the older clueless fairweather fans (college fans spoiled by their initial success), but now finally a generation of 20-30somethings that grew up with the team and buy their own tickets.... I guess they've finally had enough (most people have just checked out worse than JETS fans though) I do still like how the stadium plays "Bro Hymm" by Pennywise when they score...... but the "move those chains" chant may be the laaaamest
Ok, so not sure if you were just throwing out his name or actually already knew this, but Caldwell was indeed interviewed by Jacksonville on Tuesday. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.c...jaguars-interviewing-jim-caldwell-on-tuesday/
I knew that. Thought it was the perfect fit. He’s older and probably not the long term solution but, like I said, he would get the organization back to some semblance of respectable and not totally ruin TL .
There's a huge problem with all these OCs being considered for HC gigs because of their work with their respective quarterbacks. Thinking Leftwich and McDaniels. They look attractive to a franchise with a young QB but their new jobs won't be that of just an OC who can mentor a young QB. They'll have to lead an entire team and there is nothing in their resumes that says they can do that. Bieniemy is probably the worst of the bunch. Maybe he has some good traits I'm not familiar with but he coaches Mahomes and Reid calls the plays. So what makes him a good HC? I have no idea.
