Thanks PA This is actually my favorite part of the draft process, trying to figure out which players are ranked significantly higher by NFL Guys than the draft community (i.e. Draftniks and Gurus) consensus, and which guys are ranked significantly lower as well If you notice, that happens every year ... every year there are guys the draft community either significantly under-rated or significantly over-rated and those players wind up getting drafted much higher or lower than their "consensus projections" Well that is probably my favorite part of being a draftnik, trying to figure out who those guys might be? Gilbert is obviously one and that needs no explanation, I already beat that horse to death, but as the draft approaches I am getting the same feeling about Barwin .. 11 Sacks in 08 (in D1A), 255 Pounds and ran a 4.47 at his pro day (not a 4.49 as I initially reported), Great motor, Good character, TOUGH SOB and a terrific overall athlete Well that is ordinarily the profile of a TOP 10 Pick, or at least TOP 15-20, is it not? Sure seems that way too me .. IMO this is a guy we have all been guilty of under-valuing heretofore, perhaps even more than Gilbert ... Kiper, Mayock, McShay, all of the so-called draft gurus .. and all of the draftniks as well, including me, because it didn't occur too me until this week
one thing that sticks out to me is the patriots picks, I can't imagine any situation where they take 2 Dbs with their first 2 picks they have 7 Dbs who are pretty much a lock to make the team, and 2 or 3 more who seem likely, so I can't see them going with Dbs at 23 and 34. I would think better targets at those spots based on your top 22 would be MAtthews, cushing, ayers english sintim, jackson, laurinitis
i think they'll take a CB and a LB with the early picks, and then stock up on OL/DL after that. They really need to get younger. This is the draft they are going to do it with.
I'm with you there. And I'll be sure to create that thread where some of the "draftniks" around here can take a shot at what players will go much higher than expected, which will go much lower than expected and where they will be picked. I'll create that one soon hopefully. That's always fun..
