Some are missing my point. Turner is a known, but as a backup behind a VERY good SD offensive line. Jordan was a known, but as a backup behind a pretty good Jets offensive line. Jordan struggled with the transition. In his first game for Oakland, he had to pull himself out with all sorts of muscle cramp problems... he just wasn't used to the workload. He hasn't performed up to the expectations Oakland had for him. Chester Taylor was supposed to rip it up with newly aquired Hutchinson at LG, the best guard in the NFL according to the players themselves. But both Taylor and the Minny offense disappointed. There was a case where the HC knew Taylor very well. All I'm saying is that Turner is no garantee to vastly improve the Jets running game. In that respect, yes, it's an unknown, even to Schotty. It's also quite possible that he could improve the running game. Is he a sure enough bet to surrender a first round pick for? That's where I say no. A second, probably yes. Remember as well, that he won't be cheap to sign, and he would have to agree to be traded to whatever team ponies up with an offer. I still think it's the O line that needs to be improved first and foremost. Willie Parker isn't a great RB. He was a late second day pick, but behind a very solid Pitt O line that can punish defenders, he looks pretty good. I'd rather spend the Turner pick on an O lineman that can run people over at either RG or RT. Behind punishing O lines that can open holes, fifth round RB's can be very successful. Wasn't Turner a fifth round pick? There's my point.
Excellent post. I agree 100%. Whether or not he is a product of a great Offensive line, we or another team will find out. I'd like a good RT (Tony Pashos is a big, young guy who started for Baltimore and is a free agent). And competition for Brandon Moore could be good. Washington/Houston could be great behind a better offsensive line, so why not make a couple upgrades here or there. And by the way, to prove your point even more,Willie Parker was undrafted.
