Yes, but why in the world would we want to have money for him in future years, when he may no longer be the starter? I seriously doubt that he would sign a contract where there wasn't a chunk of guaranteed money next year. The last thing we want is a big chunk of dead money for a player that's all of a sudden a backup or perhaps not even on the roster.
And why would we want him? We need an infusion of youth on this team. Mathews is 28 and has maybe 2 years left. I'd rather spend the draft pick on a RB with younger legs and a cheaper contract.
Because thats the way its done now. Its how the cap is manipulated. Fitz is only 33. He can be startr for next 2 years. Giving him a bigger number in years 2-4 wouldn't kill us as the cap will increase yearly.
Just because the cap will increase doesn't make it a reasonable or good thing to do. It's still stupid! Thank God Mac isn't a lemming.
I'm not gonna panic if he (Fitz) signs elsewhere. I wouldn't pay him over $8-$9 million per year. If he wants more than that and can get it, it just shows how desperate teams are for QBs and how stupid they are.
RB is a short career in the NFL and ivroys has been riddled with injury. with all the concussion stuff and life after football its hard to blame someone in his position for taking the big long term deal
this is where im at. i dont see how giving him 9-12 million makes sense. i mean lets put things in perspective, we picked fitz up off the scrap heap as is... id rather go back to the scrap heap then break the back for an average qb with limited years and upside in him. id rather (GASP) play geno then bring fitz back for more then say 5-7 million
One tough dude, and he gave us some memorable moments. However, the bruising running backs, (Riggins, Okoye, Alstott, etc.,) are a becoming a short-lived career against 300+ pound DL's.
Really strange move by the Jags since they already have TJ Yeldon and Denard Robinson! Ivory can play obviously and I'm a little sad to see him go, but he's not a Pro Bowler and shouldn't get a big contract, though we're all glad he got it. He was a good team player and bruising runner but not a franchise type. Strange place for the Jags to throw all that money.
