Maybe, maybe not. Id say were favorites for Cro. Likely for Spiller even though Gore backing out of Philly makes me think he'll end up there. We have to make too many signings to go crazy on the first wave of FA's. Sure some of these guys would've been nice to have but the second tier guys is where the front office needs to make their mark.
Kid from Indiana...Coleman? Ran a 4.3. Avg 8 yards a carry.. That's impresive being IU is awful in football.
LOL Another 24 hours and you can officially go nuts. Now the way Mehta works is he printed out list of FAs that would fit Jets needs. He also already got 3 variation of the same article: "According to sources Jets are/will/were planning to pursue/talk/in the hunt for player A/B/C." You'll see these article arrive with predictability of my dog's farts. Some of them will happen to be correct .. blind squirrel, you know.
While we're in the dark about Iupati's contract, anybody wanna venture a guess as to how much he might have gotten paid? 4 years/37 million? More? Less?
It's not that I love Coleman, more like not sold on Spiller. Although his best time was under our current OC, there is that...
I just think the way the nfl is going you can spend minimal money on a RB..nyjets can prob grab him in the 4 th rd amd use him the same way they want to use spiller and for relatively no cost.
How do you figure that? I don't think McCourty would have gotten much more. $9.5 million per year is a lot.
I'm glad Iupati signed with the Cards. I never understood why so many posters here wanted him. We're not playing the "ground and pound" offense any more. That's what he's best suited for. He's not a good pass blocker, and that's what we need most. He would not have been a good fit here, and we would probably have had to pay him upwards of $9-10 million a year which is absurd and ridiculous for an OG, especially one who can't pass block.
Why would your priority #1 FA be an OG who doesn't fit our new OC's scheme? Sorry, but that makes no sense. Iupati is NOT a good pass blocker. He's a great run blocker. We aren't playing the ground and pound any more. Gailey's system uses a lot of 3 WRs and he will look to throw the ball more. We need OGs who can pass block.
At least, maybe over $10 million per year. I would have screamed bloody murder if Mac had signed Iupati for even $8 million per. I'm glad he's signing with AZ.
I can't believe the Chicken Little reactions in this thread....Lol. And you guys are actually serious!!!!!
Losing out on Iupati doesn't bother me because he needs to play in a run oriented offense to live up to a big contract. The Jets should go after Boling or Bulaga to help improve the o-line.
There have already been 2 pretty big trades, one of which we were a part of, and I have a sneaky suspicion there could be more.
McCoy was a legit big trade as it involved 2 big name players. Marshall was not a big trade in the sense that it was a dump - yes it gave us a potentially prime time players but it was a dump. Regardless, big trades don't happen often - look back at a transaction history of the league in the past few years.
I think it was a good signing. It's not sexy, and he's not Franklin, but he's young, big, and a better pass blocker than run blocker. That's a good start. Hopefully, he will develop better conditioning, technique and will become a better player. The bottom line is that he's already better than Colon, Winters and Aboushi.
Not to mention he's a west coast guy. Didn't see him leaving the west coast if we didn't grossly overpay him.
