That was a jail break. That was worse than the Oline collapse in 2011 starring Wayne F. Hunter. The Punter could get killed too.

Maybe it's just better to let Fitz earn his money at this point? It's not safe back there anymore

Lol they should just put the rest of them on IR and call it a wrap for this season. Almost every thing that could have went wrong this year has gone wrong

Watching the lack of protection is giving me Glenn Foley flashbacks.

Foley was a young kid we drafted (round seven) that looked pretty good, hurt one shoulder, came back, hurt his other shoulder and was out for the season.

With this o-line he'll probably become the black knight:

I am hoping he can develop enough to be a solid backup. He is likeable in that he is not afraid to take a hit and has shown a lot of toughness. But he seems far from being ready to play. He looks lost. He does not progress through his recievers, does not see the field, holds the ball too long, is struggling mightly with line calls and is unable to read defenses. Which is what we should expect from a new qb. It's hard to judge a QB without giving him at least a year of play. Being a 4th rd easily disposable pick I doubt he will get anymore time to develop other than these last two games. Without making great strides next off season he will have a hard time making the roster. I see us signing a stop gap veteran to start, Hack moving into the backup role and Petty competing with any drafted or FA QB for the last roster spot.

To be fair, this was only his second pro start.

I think we all remember the excuses made for Geno Smith throwing pick six after pick six in his second or third year.

Hell, the guy practically assumed the fetal position in that one Bill's game.

While solid backup would not be a bad thing this kid could still be the real deal as a starter.

Jet Nation put out another film review of Petty. This is the good things Petty did. I would assume there will be a bad video too. But all-in-all, it shows Petty progressing further, showing as I expected multiple examples where he reads the fin defense correctly, making the right throw and often calling an audible to take advantage. It also has a very interesting explanation for why Petty got injured. Petty called a quick snap to take advantage of the Dolphins safeties being misaligned and the OL didnt hear it or adjust, especially TE Eric Tomlinson (who?) Part and parcel of not enough work together.

    Anyway, enjoy:

That's not even what happened on that play. Petty used a hard count to try to draw the dolphins offsides like he had already done 3 times, and Wesley Johnson didn't know the count and snapped it. Everyone else knew the actual call so they didn't move.

Johnson baked Petty cookies to apologize. This is a good example of a writer trying to explain something that he doesn't actually know.

Was that how it was explained? I saw that Johnson baked Petty cookies, and therefore took responsibility. But I didnt hear an official breakdown of the play.

"It appeared center Wesley Johnson might have made a mistake with the snap count on the play leading to Petty’s injury, since he was the only one on the Jets’ offensive line who moved. That created clear lanes for both Wake and Suh to crunch the quarterback. Petty and Coach Todd Bowles called Johnson’s mistake “a miscommunication.”

“It won’t happen again,” a smiling Petty said. “I had a batch of cookies on my hood from Wes, so that was a really nice gesture. He still owes me dinner, though.”

Certainly, the o-line play has been bad, but Petty has also been hanging onto the ball way too long. Petty has a lot of arm talent but he is very inaccurate. Also, his pocket presence is terrible. Petty needs a lot more work on how to move within the pocket, something that Fitzpatrick did very well.

Some of this is certainly because Ijalana has gotten beat like a drum that last few games at LT, but Petty needs to help him by learning how to shift in the pocket better. I certainly have not seen anything that would make me excited to see Petty as a starting qb next year and this is probably why the coaching staff was so reluctant to make him the starter.
