I have to agree that the contract seems rather pricey for a guy with 6.5 career sacks. It becomes a little more of a concern if you consider that he is known for his pass rush abilities. On the other hand. I think the GMs in general might be signing guys to larger than expected contracts because they anticiapte the salary cap to increase in the coming years as it did this year. That would make these signings more in line with the market. Of course, the business of speculation is sometimes dicey.

The money does seem like alot at first glance, but this is really how the league is geared towards nowadays. It's not the worst contract given the likelihood that he will start or get significant playing time. Will he make the most of that playing time, only time will tell.

anytime the cowboys put him on the field he really excelled. he was good enough to start for them. how would just someone who was a true backup rack up 31 tackles in the 3-4 DE spot?

anyways he will start I'm expecting it. cowboys fans will miss him, i watched most of their games and one of my best friend is a fan as well and wasnt too happy at all about this.

    rofl, thats my point though.

people think this is just a parcells guy coming through to be recycled and hes cashing in on the FA fluctiation of contracts.

not so, this guy rotated and played ALOT. and he was a key contributor. theyll be hard pressed to find someone like him, the guy made the best of every snap he was given.

he WILL be starting for us. its obvious that tanny/mangini dont value the DL depth in late rd 1/early rd 2. which is why we jump on jones and hope our scouts did their job in the late 2nd/early 3rd.

coleman will start, him and kimo will rotate and groom whoever we draft later.

He's a guy they view to be on the upswing. Even though he's been a career backup thus far he has continually progressed and his numbers have shown that. I'm sure Parcells told Tannenbaum just such a thing before he signed that big check. Whether or not he starts is kind of irrelevant to me, he will surely see many game day snaps....

Based on the money, I have to assume that Parcells made a call to Tanny about the guy, as baamf and probably some others have noted.

This one still stings me guys. Dont get me wrong, I'm hoping this guy ends up being a stud, but this move seems very un-tangini to me

I trust tannebaum so much that I'm almost positive that this guy is going to be a pro bowler. he wouldnt just sign him to this huge contract if he didnt think he was going to be a stud on this team.

Here are some comments on Coleman from a Cowboy's forum:

    - kenyon coleman looks like a wwf wrestler in person.
He is the most cut and muscular guy on our team...
    He is huge in person.
I think he is a solid player, does alot of the dirty work when he is on the field.

    - The best thing about him is that he doesnt get pushed back a tthe point of attack. I think he should be strting for us.

    - Kenyon Coleman is just as good if not better than Marcus Spears. What have Spears done compared to a back-up Coleman?

    - I'm not sure you can equate them as they played different roles. But I understand what you're saying. I think Coleman was more disruptive when in there.

From what I have read on their site they seem to be split on Coleman. Some think he is there best DE and the rest think that he was a good depth guy that can be replaced. Either way I think that with some coaching he can become a very good player for us, and definitly a upgrade over Kimo.

Thanks for the research. This is the kind of info that keeps me coming back and helps me tolerate the "what about Pacman Jones " threads. Thanks

Cmon now comparing ANYBODY to Kimo is not fair. Now compare him to other starters in the NFL & you are getting somewhere if he is better then them

Here is the break down you were looking for. As far as i'm concerned for a part-time player he looks pretty good compared to these starters from other 3-4 teams. You have to think that with starters snaps those numbers are going to jump.

Now I know that 3-4 dl are not about the stats more about the double teams they take on, but the numbers never hurt to take a look at. When I look at him compared to the best of other teams it makes me feel like we got a pretty good player. Thoughts?

Those stats say alot more then you think...he played half as much as those guys did..maybe even less and his stats are good. He had 4 sacks last year as a part-time player that shows something. Those stats tell me that we have something to work with.

We're not saying that he's this disruptive force and will make a massive impact in the PR game like JAbe would when healthy. I think we're just saying he's a quality player with a lot of potential. And, he will help with that D-Line. I think you're right when you say most teams wouldn't let go of a disruptive force at PR aside from cap reasons, but i dont think that relates to Kenyon Coleman. He'll simply improve the spot when kimo von fatf**k failed so miserably.
