U must have not been reading my posts for months & months now & what you have posted is exactly what I have been saying all those months. It's good to see that at least 1 board member can finally see the forest from the trees
i agree, unless the jets finish with around 4 wins, he could get fired. but i don't see it happening.
Of course Rex is going to tend to sway towards the defensive side of the ball, thats where he made his mark prior to the Jets, Sparano should help things on the other side of the ball, like some of you are pointing out, we need to fix RT to get that OL humming along nicely to give Sanchex some time in the pocket, WR worries me a little bit but im hoping that comes good with guys coming back from injury, if those things pick up on the field come the regular season we wont even be worrying about Rex or Tanny
I mean it definitely has a lot to do with Rex along with Tanny. I like Rex's new approach of being quiet. I don't think this is a hot seat year but it may get warm if they don't do well.
Being a Steeler fan for 44 years and only three coaches makes me feel lucky along with all the success that as come along with it. That being said I love Rex. He makes the game fun and the Jets interesting. I think he's a great Defensive Coordinator and there is no reason he cn't be a great Head coach one day. His reume isn't too shabby for a guy with three years under his belt. My brother has beenn a Jet Fan since the Titan days ,Hell he even spent $12:50 for a Ticket to the Super Bowl. I would even give Rex an extension just because of his passion fr the game. Rex wil learn how to deal with the NY media which is no easy chore by far. Even Knoll and the "Chin" had growing pains in a small market media. Give Rex his due and give him a couple more years to put his mark on this team and good things will come to the Jets. Hang in guys because if nothing else the Jets interest me more than the G-nants which I despise along with the Cowgirls........... Good luck guys ..........who knows ,maybe we'll meet again in the AFC finals. You guys had me pacing last time.
this and this wtf is going to happen when the jets lose a game during the regular season if this is what happens during the preseason? part of the reason this team has been average is because of the coaching turnover.let this play out a little longer then 3 years and 2 preseason games before calling for heads.its not like rex has strung together 3 4-12 seasons his worst season is 8-8. damn i hate jet fans
I disagree with that strongly. The roster is decidedly worse today than it was 2 years ago and is arguably worse than last year. The offensive line has devolved from one of the best in the league to being in the bottom 3rd (assuming Hunter stays out of the starting lineup). The WRs used to be a talented and deep group; now they are neither. The running back situation has been on a steady decline the past few years. The safeties are patchwork and above average at best. The LBs are older and no more talented than in previous seasons. The only areas that have seen definitive improvement are CB (thanks mostly to Cromartie, but also to Wilson) and the DL (Wilk is a good player and Coples should help that line be dominant). The QB position is probably worse now than before because, despite Sanchez development and increased experience, they've brought in a backup QB that can't throw. Rex is not responsible for this things, Tannenbaum is. Keep in mind that the declines in talent all have over-valued salaries attached to players at those respective positions. That's also on Tannenbaum. He should be on the chopping block should this year go tits up.
Rex has a lot of input in personnel, don't kid yourselves. So did Mangini. Tanny knows he is Not an evaluator, he relies on scouts and coaches. Several draft picks have had Rex all over them, just as many of the FA moves have. Tanny gets he coaches what they want.
Rex gotta stop hiring yes-men and hire someone that knows the passing game. I'm really shocked he didn't get Hue Jackson when he had the chance.
You are right. 8-8. That is clearly indicative of "nothing" wrong with the team. I feel better now. SB here we come.
The Jets have gone 8-8 five times before last season. They have won 8, 4, 4, 6 and 9 games the season after those 8-8 performances. The 9 win season was the bounce back after Vinny's injury + no backup QB. Obviously these are different teams we are talking about. The 78 and 79 Walt Michaels Jets had a collapse season in 80 before the Sack Exchange took off. The 91 and 93 Bruce Coslet Jets were in the extended hangover from all the injuries and the sudden retirement of Al Toon coupled with the decline of Ken O'Brien. Still, 8-8 does not mean everything is ok in Jet's-land. In the past 8-8 has been followed by an average of 6 wins the next season.
Because Jets' average wins after an 8-8 season are 6, I guess we are doomed. Once Jets start winning, darksiders will jump the ship in a heartbeat and show one of their very few positive posts about the team and claim they always knew in the back of their head that Jets would somehow outplay their expectations. If they falter, they can claim their victories.
What huge part from last year did we lose, Burress? Be real. The QB position should be improved. The RBs have another year under their belt, should improve. The Terminator is a good blocker. The WRs are more talented than last year. Will that lead to productivity? We'll see. TE is basically the same (Mulligan is gone!!), but we don't have a blocking TE. OL is the same except Hunter is benched (Howard, yet to be determined) and Slauson will be playing healthy, Moore is a year older. Ducasse looks to be finally getting it. DL is very talented and is much improved from last year. Secondary is also much improved as long as Landry can stay healthy. The LBs are the same exept older. Demario and Maybin should bring that unit some youth and speed.
