He needs to be better in those areas and so do almost all young QBs Not everyone lights the world on fire starting from day one especially with the embarrassment of receiving targets he mainly was throwing to No doubt Geno has a ton of work to do but contrary to some fans' rhetoric, it wasn't just awful all the time as he had a handful of games that made you think he could be a very good player some day The thing is he doesn't need to be amazing in the categories you listed..he just has to be better and continiuing to improve. He won't have the same leadership and pre snap read ability as Fitzpatrick right now but his athletic gifts and abilities to throw the ball down field will help offset that. He is so much more physically talented that you just need average ability in the other areas....I guess the Jets coaches and FO are trying to figure this part out now
This. I guess we totally agree on this outlook. This is why the majority of New York teams have disappointing seasons despite spending the most money. We lock these over the hill players up on crazy contracts because the media and fans scream that we need to sign somebody and then a few years later the whole thing collapses. Not this time. The Super Bowl champions didn't even take Fitz and they clearly know a thing or two about football. We have to be patient and build this thing organically. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I will support and root for whoever lines up behind C week 1. I agree for the most part with what you said in your last paragraph. However, that talent he possesses does nothing without the ability to effectively lead his unit and read the defense. That's why we continue to see guys with lesser talents have more successfully careeres than the Jeff Georges of the NFL. Smarts and ability to communicate with grown men will always trump physical tools on this level. I think that's what intrigues most of us about Geno. If he can only mature like most young men do in their mid to late 20's. I just hope it's not too late as he already has a history with this organization. He may need a change of scenery if he is a lone wolf again in TC. Time will tell but I hope he proves us all wrong who doubt his maturity and growth abilities as a man.
My last paragraph was meant as a comparison to give us similar production to Fitzpatrick would give this year....He needs to be better in those areas but nothing more than average in those areas which would still be a big jump and great progress If he ever wanted to be considered anything more than an ok starter then I agree with you he would need to be very good in all areas...Huge stretch though at this point
Arent we all over this argument already? I mean does it really matter what any of us think? Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
Hate to break it to you, we're not winning shit with Geno, either.... Fitz needs to be re signed before week one.. At least Petty and Hack can learn nuances and stuff from a smart guy and not a big moron like #7.
If you're saying the conversation should end because it doesn't matter what any of us thinks then what's the point of the site?
Maybe someone will take it upon themself to start a thought-provoking thread on a subject that isn't who the QB of the NYJs is that doesn't inspire such vitriol, and we can all take our worthless opinions there?
Well it is pretty worthless since none of us run the team. But thats besides the point. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
LOL. Here is my warped thought provoking continuation threat. Fitz finally comes back, he plays like shit in pre-season, and half the fans will rally behind the new thread " performance in pre-season does not mean shit" while the other half will be ready to crucify Geno after the first pre-season mistake, under the newly created thread " Metha reports Geno threw two interceptions during a 2 on 2 closed practice, as per undisclosed sources" And the vitriol grows stronger than ever.
