Say we lost Fitzy, do you think we start the season with Geno or give the keys to Petty from the get go?
Has to be an open competition, right? If Petty can't beat out Smith and a vet/rookie, then we'll know what we've got. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Looks like Petty and Geno both got a gift from the football gods. I don't think Fitz is gonna sign here because we just have the cash this year. I don't see any upside to RGIII since we already have Geno.
I would say you are right but considering how raw Petty was last year, I don't think he can truly beat Geno/vet in an open competition. It will be up to coaches to determine if Petty has enough upside/potential to start next year so he can accelerate his development. Stokes here along with NCFan are two folks I value their opinion hence the question
Doesn't matter what he wants, talk about what we have which is nothing if they can't sign wilkerson long term and restructure revis.
OK, top half I'll accept. I was thinking you had suffered momentary insanity and was thinking the Jets were a top 5 team. Some posters here seem to be under that delusion.
Based on what? Because we won 10 games with a powder puff schedule last year? ROFLOL. No good argument can be made. The Broncos, Pats, Chiefs, Bengals, Steelers are all better. Until we can beat them, so are the Bills, Raiders and Ravens. With a healthy Luck, Indy is better. San Diego is probably better. Heck with the offseason moves they've been making, Jacksonville may be better than us. Now that I think about it, I'm not so sure we are even in the top half of the league.
I respect your opinion and arguments pretty much all of the time but no way you're being serious right now, not even in the top half of the league? I know we don't have a QB right now but with Forte's addition and Marshall and Decker we won't need an elite QB to make the playoffs. (Not that we had one in Fitzpatrick, I'm just saying we'll be ok with similar QB play)
based on how we saw Bowles handle things last year, i'd wager geno would start as qb1 and his job to lose. I knowit isn't popular just going by the way he seems to handle position battles. Which is one of the things i like with this staff. there is not much that hinders team prep more than qb competitions when the coaches insist on splitting reps. holds back the entire offense. that said, t still think fitz is back at around 11/year
I totally agree with you on this one. That's why I was trying to understand who might be called as QB1 before the camp. I also think it will be Geno if we can't bring back Fitz.
First of all, thanks. I'm afraid I am being serious, but I said I wasn't sure that we were a top half team, not that we definitely weren't. I would rather you be right, believe me. IMO we still have a lot of question marks. Last year was exciting and fun, but we played a cream puff schedule. If Fitz comes back, will he be able to stay healthy, and if he does will he play as well as he did? Unless our OL gets a serious upgrade, he would be hard-pressed to play as well. Brick and Giacomini were both bad to awful last season, and as of right now, they're still our OTs. Willie Colon was our best RG last season and he's probably retired. Matt Winters is not the answer at RG. We have no depth at C. We don't have a single quality TE on the roster. At H-Back we have two guys with a lot of potential, but one of them has a tendency to drop too many balls, and the other was a 2nd round pick who, if he doesn't have a very good season, might not be with the team going forward. We have a 31 year-old RB in Forte and Zac Stacy at RB. Ivory got a pretty good-sized chunk of his yards after initial contact and that made our OL look better than it was. Will Forte be able to do that? On D we have little or no speed at LB (except for Mauldin) and little or no pass rush. We lost our run-stuffing NT. The #2 CB spot could be a problem this season. We have no punter. We have a much tougher schedule. I'm adopting a wait and see attitude. I believe in Bowles and Mac, I just think they have their work cut out for them with the mess they inherited. I think they will do well to finish 8-8 this season. What makes you so optimistic?
@Cman60 Boss, please stop liking my posts. I will think highly of myself.... or... are you doing this to keep me away from BS section by talking football? Hmm, could be.
I think Geno would start the offseason as the nominal starter but it would be a private competition. Meaning Bowles wouldn't announce that it's an open competition but the staff would be watching very closely to see how both players are preparing, leading, working, how they interact with the team. There really isn't any football until training camp that would show one player is outplaying the other. Once we get to camp all bets are off and I think Petty will show to be the superior player. Because he's got as much or more physical talent than Geno, has a higher football IQ and is a true leader. Won't matter because you know somebody else is going to knock Geno the fuck out. _
Jets will have an average or below average QB. Lost a nose tackle. And got a better RB. Broncos doesn't have any QB at the moment and lost key defensive talent Raiders haven't had a winning record in a decade and there's no telling how the new talent will perform. Ravens couldn't win last year and didn't make many improvements this year. They "plated worse than their talent level" yeah I've heard that before (jets 2013&4). Bills? We had trouble with them last year but I won't concede anything more than a split. We smashed Indy last year with a health Luck. Now he's lost his tight ends. The coach and GM are trash and I'm expecting another poor draft from them. Jags see Raiders San Diego has a defense that would let Geno put up 40. It's that bad. Patriots-Pittsburg-Cincinatti-Kansas City. Those are the 4 teams that are strong and proven in the AFC. Tougher schedule? Fins are trash. Bills we should at least split Patriots hopefully split. 4-2 NFC WEST - Rams are still trash and the 49ers are going to get next years #2 pick. Seattle has underwhelmed early in seasons so it could depend when we play them. AZ I'll call it a loss. 2-2 AFC north - Browns trash, Ravens underperform. Pittsburg - Cincinnati 2-2 Colts trash Kansas City is a problem. 1-1 9-6 conservatively. We're playing 6 games against the teams with the 10 worst records last year.
