I can see the beard becoming a big thing if the Jets get off to a good start. Fitzgerald and Mangold might convince a few other guys to start one also.
It's quite possible it accelerates Petty's progression and may have pushed a possible 2017 start to 2016. Maybe Fitz gets us way ahead in a few games this year and he gets some mop up duty.
I can't think of a better mentor (for lack of a better term) for Petty than Fitz. The guy is smart and reportedly generous with his team mates. This team is a whole lot better off than a year ago...
Kind of obvious, but Bowles makes it official. If Fitzy gets hurt week 1, it's Bryce Petty Time!! http://www.northjersey.com/sports/f...ce-petty-will-be-backup-quarterback-1.1405250 NORTHJERSEY.COM : SPORTS : FOOTBALL : JETS Jets notes: Bryce Petty will be backup quarterback SEPTEMBER 8, 2015 LAST UPDATED: TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2015, 1:21 AM THE RECORD Print Petty will be backup Coach Todd Bowles confirmed Monday that fourth-round draft pick Bryce Petty will be the backup quarterback when the Jets host Cleveland on Sunday. Gang Green released veterans Matt Flynn and Josh Johnson on Saturday, leaving Petty as the only healthy signal-caller on the roster besides starter Ryan Fitzpatrick. It's an interesting turn of events, considering that on Aug. 27, Bowles said the notion of Petty being ready to be the backup on opening day would be "wrong." But on Monday, he indicated that Petty was as viable an option for Sunday as either Flynn or Johnson would have been. "Bryce has gotten better each week," Bowles said. "To say that the other guys that came in so late would know more [of the offense] than him at that point in time, we'd be lying. Bryce knows a little more than them. They have more experience than him, but not having a full grasp of the offense, you'd be getting pretty much the same thing." Bowles also said Fitzpatrick, who suffered a fractured leg last December, "wasn't totally healthy" when the Jets signed Flynn and Johnson last month. _
If Mangold does a QB sneak who is gonna tackle him? Who? Last I checked Joe Klecko isn't playing any more.
Are you implying Mangokd can't sling it? Are you implying he wouldn't break the record for rushing yards by a QB on QB sneaks?
i dont think petty is ready but i dont think he is so far behind that putting him out there now would ruin him he looked good in person and bowles said he is only getting better.
I'm implying there is no third QB on the roster...obviously. And the person who could best handle a snap with no experience is the person who makes a living snapping the ball.
This would indicate that Geno isn't too far off, and that they figure at worst Petty would be the QB for 1 or 2 weeks. Geno must be ready to go by week 2 or 3 if needed.
