There's no espn about it. He does need 1-2 years. Maybe if you used your education on the sport you'd realize that the nfl is a qb starved league and as salaries for the position rise, the quality decreases. Teams make long reach picks like Blaine Gabbart embodies this. Look at Philly fans talking Sam Bradford up. When he was healthy, he still wasn't that good. Let him learn the position. The game is different and it's faster. He has to adjust to that. He needs a year or two, and if he gets that, I think he will be serviceable at worst.

OK. Because you have watched the Big 12, and every Baylor game the last 2 years. Have watched every Jet game for the past 26 years. Played at the FBS (Div 1) level. You're right, I need to be educated.

Further, the game is faster, well who played at a quicker pace, the Baylor Bears or the New York Jets? Who made more pre-snap reads at the LOS? Bryce or Geno.

    You can sit down now.

Dude I have missed a jets game since I've been 13. I literally do not work 2hen they play and my jobs never schedule me. I go to practice. I watch games while and after, and I've seen petty on TV, computer, and in person......he's not ready. He's had one decent preseason outing. Take it down a notch. Didn't we do this with Kellen Clemens? There's a huge difference between playing 1s, 2s, and 3s. Yeah he did some good things, but how about we just I dunno, wait. Steve young sat behind montana, did that stunt his development? No. Our past two starting qbs started as rookies, and neither of them has panned out for any team thus far. We drafted petty as a project, let him remain a project.

I didnt say to play him right now. If you read any of my posts I say play him when the season is shot. RIGHT NOW FITZ IS BETTER. But if the season is a lost cause. Throw him to the wolves.

I disagree respectfully good sir. I'd rather not risk injury for meaningless games. Maybe the last game or 2 but that's a big maybe. I'd rather just have him start fresh next year.

Tho the game is against buffalo. So that might not be a bad thing

Of course. I don't think you can trot him out there week 1 but if he's watching and practicing and in meetings and watching film, there is no doubt by mid-year he'd be competent enough to play him.

His biggest issue was snaps under center, huddles and developing more than one read. I think he's pretty close on the first two and the third he'll pick up quickly because he's a smart guy-but that is going to be learned best by playing.

I was actually really impressed with his drops from under center against the Falcons. It seems he developed better footwork in a couple months than Geno did until his 2nd season.

I heard that Bryce worked on snaps from center with George Whitfield while he was still in college because he knew he might be NFL bound and it was something he'd need to be comfortable with. Smart guy.

your second point is very interesting - I did not know that.

and I agree, he has been very good under center considering where he was coming from. I thought he played poorly in game 1 but it was never about how he looked in the pocket or dropping back from under center. He has been solid there and surprised me from the get go on that. Thats encouraging and suggests the kid is a quick learner. Game 2 was even better as he threw the ball better on top of maintaining composure in the pocket

Yeah I assumed he and Mariota were working on that every offseason for the past couple of years and hit it hard this offseason.

I think they'll both be proficient at it pretty quickly.

Why? It only a user name...that how I look at it. If people have read my post all I care about is winning. I really don't give a shit who the QB is I just want to win baby. I've said this I don't know how many times if Fitz,Petty or whoever is the QB when Geno comes back. If they are playing good and the Jets are winning keep Geno on the bench.

Don't worry Geno, you'll be back in practice soon and won't have time to post here anymore.

I don't know if their is gang green forum code of ethics or something, but if a moderator had access to individuals information, and it really turned out to be Geno. I think I would fall out of my chair. But I was thinking what you were thinking.

Just watched the game and I don't know how anyone could be upset at Petty's showing. I admit I'm a Petty fan but I watched this game looking for improvement and was not disappointed. It was easy to see how much more comfortable he is on the field. The kid is on a learning curve but at least his arrow is pointing up. Now Fitz otoh, didn't impress me at all. He is indeed, Capt. Checkdown. The master of the dink and dunk. Don't know how much of that is need, or how much is fear of getting hit hard, but he never even tried to go downfield once. Looked like Paul F'n Hackett was calling the plays from back in the day.

I think we all can agree Fitz is who he is. An aging Qb filling a role on a desperate team looking for a game manager. Fitz isn't a game changer and I have no idea what we have in Flynn until he steps on the field but unless he's a quantum leap over Petty, I don't see the sense of Flynn even suiting up on gameday. Petty's is making great progress and I can see him challenging in '16 if his ability to pick up the nuances of the Pro game continues to improve.

Geno will and should play this season if for no other reason than to see if he's The Guy or A Guy. He's an Idzik pick and that doesn't bode well as we've seen how Idzik's position picks have panned out. I wish Geno the best and hope he plays well. He's got a ways to go to win back the confidence of his teammates (Marshall being the exception) and the fanbase. Geno's arrow is dead level right now and honestly, I feel Petty has a lot more upside than Geno.

As I said in that other thread there are people here that will defend smith no matter what and that means even if we had a better alternative. There was a core who defended Sanchez the same way. It isn't going to change.
