There is no question Leon needs more touches any way they can get them to him. I do feel though overall they need to run the ball more, their identity on O should be as a running team, that is where our strength is. TJ needs at least 20 carries every game and Leon needs at least 5. That should be the bare minimum every week.
The talking heads on tv said Leon leads the league in plays of 40 yards or more. If we get a real CS this guy is going to explode on the NFL.
It's sad, but true. IMO they don't run EITHER guy enough. Look at the JETS loses; how many runs did TJ get (10 vs SF?, 15 vs Oak?, the KC debacle?). The coaching staff sucks
There's some truth to this. I see the model for the Jets to aspire to is the late '90s Broncos, where they'd ride Terrell Davis and Elway was more the sideshow. That obviously was something to aspire to emulate. But fused a bit with the late 90s Bucs tandem of Mike Alstott (big power runner) alternating with Warrick Dunn (small fast slippery guy). Hard to completely emulate since Alstott was a FB and they'd be on the field a lot together, but it's the mix I'm talking about. I actually think the Jets are not too far off on this already, though they could bring in Leon a little more, yes. But I don't think you want to bring TJ's carries down. I think you maybe want to mix in a little more play action -- something Favre can really do well -- and get away from weird stuff like calling three straight pass plays when you have 1st and 10 on your own 1 yard line (!!!) There's obviously room to run more there.
For the life of me I can't figure out why the CS can't figure out a way to have them both on the field at the same time. These two guys are the biggest playmakers on the team, can you imagine the confusion for the opposing D if they are on the field together.
The reason our backs don't get touches can be blamed on Schottie. What kind of idiot comes out in shotgun spread formation on 1st down when you are moving the ball perfectly well on the ground and you have 2 horses to go to in the backfield? Usually, we throw an incomplete pass and then were stuck with 2nd and 10 and pass again, and then pass again on 3rd and long. Another thing this does is it takes away any threat that we will run the ball because the formation is a pure pass formation. The defense adjusts rather quickly to this. They need to start setting the tempo with the run which will give is more 3rd and short situations rather than 3rd and long. Of course, it will setup the play action big pass plays too. This coaching staff plays against the strengths on our roster time and time again.
Like concussion said, we pass on pretty much every down, and it needs to stop, we are not NFL Texas Tech, we need to give it to our 2 biggest playmakers, TJ20, and LW29, pronto!!!!!!!!!!!
didn't help that the jets badly lost the time of possesion again yesterday, Buffalo 35:29 vs. Jets 24:31. Jets offense had 54 total plays vs. 74 for Bills: Rushed the ball 24 times (21 to TJ; 2 to Richardson; 1 to Leon) Passed the ball 30 times (1 reception for Leon, don't think he was targeted more than 1 or 2 times)
