The definition of a franchise QB is the guy you're going to build around come hell or high water. Once you go off of that position you no longer have a franchise QB. My opinion is the Jets have already gone off of that position with the acquisition of Tebow. Not because they expect Tebow to replace Sanchez but because it's possible he might. No team these capped days has a guy hanging in the wings with the franchise QB on board. The last team in that position was the 49ers a lifetime ago and there was no question they were waiting for Montana to decline with age so they could replace him with Young. The injury just sped things up a little. When the Chargers drafted Rivers *he* was the franchise QB and Brees was just on borrowed time there. Again, the injury just solidified the plan they already had.
its a good question. Sanchez needs to step it up in order to be a franchise qb. he needs the OL to protect him and he needs to be able to burn defenses that overplay the run.
Hence the proposed question. Right now, going into the 3rd preseason game of 2012, Sanchez is not a Franchise quarterback. Will he be? That remains to be seen, and is why I am not really high on Sanchez.
That's like asking yourself if you're in love. If you have to even ask it, the answer's a no. Especially 3+ years in.
Talk to the Chargers and Giants about Brees and Eli. Or the Patriots in the AFC champ game in 01. Not saying Sanchez is even near them or going to reach that, but it's a question asked many times
Tell that to Drew Brees. It's certainly an open question, but this is a really poor time to answer it.
We could of drafted Russell Wilson or Nick Foles... but noooooooo god forbid we give Sanchez legit competition
Players don't blossom into elite quarterbacks. They either are or they aren't. Sanchez isn't. You don't go from mediocre 3 years in a row to great just because you got to start more games.
I think it's insane that we're even talking about the QB. How can you guys, or anybody else for that matter, tell me whether he's any good or not? Last year he had about millisecond after the snap before WFH escorted a Defender into his face, not to mention the fact that I don't recall ever seeing Holmes or Burris get anything you could even rationalize into being separation. So far this preseason, it doesn't look like were going to get much "ground and pound" out of our running game. More like ground to a halt. I'm not a Sanchez fan--But I do prefer him over any of the other QBs....or FBs, on the roster. At this point, from what I've seen, it looks like he's actually one of the better players on what looks like a very subpar offense. Hopefully, we're better than that. Let's keep our fingers crossed for this Howard kid, and the guys on this forum can take turns attempting to punt....because that can't get any worse. But as far as QB, I say we can't judge this kid much more than we could judge Vinny when he was with the Bucs. There just isn't much help out there for him.
This is like the same question every month And like someone probably already said, this is the year for sanchez to prove himself I believe in him, let's hope he kicks ass this season P.S.: he's playing well today
I think it depends what you mean. I don't think Eli is a great QB. I really really don't. I think he barely cracks the top ten. I don't trust Sanchez to single handedly bring success to the franchise. But I don't think he should be the fall guy if we have another shit year. He's at a huge disadvantage this year. He has no help.
Yes, he is our franchise QB, he just needed time to develop like many QBs in the past have. He's looked sharp in the preseason IMO, he just needs more weapons.
I agree. I've been saying this since his 2nd season, this regime hasn't been fair to this kid what with the revolving door at the WR position every year since he's been drafted. You'd think with that much invested in the most important position on the team, the FO & CS would understand that a rookie QB can't be successful without consistency at the WR position.
he is currently our franchise qb. personally im giving him until the end of the 2013 season to determine what kind of player he will be in the long run.
If the Jets do not make the postseason, I think the Ryan and Tanne regime is over. Any new couple will likely not want Sanchez. No one wants to depend upon Sanchez to win a must game.
