Gore made use of the gaps when they were there. The problem is, the gaps just generally aren't there. Our QB completing 2/3 of his passes isn't going to matter if we can't run the ball.
Sam is definitely near the bottom of the issues today but he needs to start dissecting defenses better. That 4th and 1 call should of been an audible and a Qb sneak since EVERYONE but Sam and Gase saw a big hole right in front of the center.
We don't even know if the people in the building now will be the ones making that decision. That's one of Darnold's problems he wasn't drafted by these people same goes for the people that will be brought in if Douglas/Gase get fired. That's why it was foolish to dump MacCagnan when they fired him. Darnold was MacCagnan's guy, same for Robby & Adams it was in his best interest to see these guys succeed HERE. Robby & Adams are gone to me it doesn't look like Douglas gives a rat's behind about Darnold's development. When I think about what this season could've/should've been like the best word I can think of to describe the job done by Douglas is Negligent.
Sam has had 3 years in now. He supposed to be a cerebral QB. He should be smart seeing those things to audible and make first downs.
Look at what they did for Sanchez. Got him a good o line, solid vet running backs and good receivers. They gave him every chance. Look at that they did for Sam. Bell was supposed to be a big help. He's failed. The rest of the supporting cast is so bad that mahomes probably can't win with what we have. Does Sam need to improve? Yes. But he hasn't been given a fair shake with talent around him. We gave Fitzpatrick and Geno more talent than we've given Sam.
I know. I was trying to be a little salient. Even though he was struggling, he connected with Tyreek Hill for a TD. We don’t have a Tyreek Hill. The two point conversion, nasty throw. The receiver catches it, it’s a tie game. If we tried that...we’ll, you know what would’ve happened. I feel like we almost have those moments. You can taste it, that’s what’s the most frustrating.
He doesn't even complete a three step drop (without any immediate pressure - the rushers are still engaging the offensive lineman) before flinging the ball to the flat route behind or at the line of scrimmage. He looks scared. He won't even give himself a shot at reading the defense - he's scared as hell out there. There were several plays today where he faced a 5 man rush and chucked the ball to the 1 yard out route before any play had a chance at developing. Completion percentage means absolutely nothing. The running game was awful. But Burrow had a worse running game than the Jets just did and put up 30. Sam isn't even competing out there. He's getting rid of the ball before there's any shot to make a play.
I don't disagree with you. When the hole was there Gore did as good as you can expect for a 37 year old RB. However, I sincerely hope that Perrine gets a majority of carries next week - assuming he is healthy.
In response to a question about the authority to change the play on fourth down his response was "No we just stick with it". That seems to indicate that he doesn't have that latitude.
Tread lightly here. This is a Jets topic and not related with Bills. If you want a pissing contest you will be banned.
