Figures that the biggest Herm lover on here would say that. Wonder what Chief fans are saying about 10 yards rushing in a home game?

He is very far from the hot seat. Even Pennington is barely on the hot seat this morning. Two of the three major NY papers say he MAY lose his job soon. The third is calling for Mangini to stick with Chad.

And for what it is worth, Mangini deserves the opportunity to sink or swim. Two years is too soon. To borrow a Hermophiliac's argument, Mangini has made the playoffs in 50% of his seasons as HC of the NYJ (assuming we don't get there this year).

Always good to read a post with some reason, not emotion. Last year, set hopes WAYYYYYYYY to high. All of you show know that this team is no where every close to competing for a SB, division title, etc. This is why Mangini has stayed calm and not made any rash decisions. We are getting players, Revis, Harris, Leon, Brad Smith, but it takes time to build a powerhouse team. It's year 2, I know it's hard but with a new CS and FO, we all have to suffer through this and give it a little time, Woody better open that checkbook too...

Mangini should definitely not be on the Hot seat. This team is not good and neither was the one that made the playoffs last year. We had a schedule where we played 4 teams over 500 and lost 3-4 games. We beat a bunch of bad teams and had no injuries. Mangini overachieved last year and now that we have a real sched he can not do it with smoke and mirrors anymore. We are rebuilding and he should be given the chance to do so.

H'mmm at least IMHO he is coming across the DTV receiver I have totally disinterested in the proceedings on the field giving me the impression that he took on a position way above his ability

We made our bed with Mangini and now we lay in it.

Mangini hasn't made the Jets a better team. I know we made the playoffs last year but I feel we definitely overachieved. Mangini definitely has been overrated especially by this board this past offseason. Everything was "trust Mangini" and saying that Mangini will make us elite.

I don't think you can act like New England until you accomplish what New England has accomplished. It's fine to like character guys.. but even New England took in Randy Moss and we know the Jets would've NEVER been in the mix for Randy Moss. Mangini has to do his own thing and he has to be given the shot to do it. Mangini should have at least five seasons to build whatever it is we are building. Ownership thinks he can build New England South here, I'm skeptical sure, but you can't fire him after one year just as you cant induct him in Canton after one.

We are rebuilding. It's gonna take more than a year.. especially if the Jets are more about building through the draft then signing free agents.

Putting last year's performance in contrast with this year's performance is plain stupid. Case in point:

You can throw all kinds of mirrors, smoke screens and whatnots. What matters is whether "they" bite or not. In the end, if you cannot realize the threat you posed (or bluffed) then the opponents will start ignoring them one after another. You've got to have a legitimate threat for the tricks to work.

Now, do the Jets really have the kind of legitimate threat? They have a very potent threat in Coles, Cotchery and Baker (and Brad to a degree) but those threats are seriously crippled by the inability in the QB's part. TJ might be a legitimate threat, but then the line isn't doing him any favor. Then why were they so effective last year? I would like to think that, 1) not many people have seen the way offense was run before, and thus 2) it was more like they were beating themselves, getting fooled by smoke screens and whatnots. Will it work this year? If the opposing coordinators are doing their job, this won't work. You see, tricks that don't have legitimate threat behind is but a hollow threat. You ignore those kind.

This is why I do believe criticizing Mangini or Schottenheimer for their ineptitude in offense is not right. Mangini is fully to blame for the mess on D, but for the offense - he didn't have an answer to start. Expect a QB change after the season.

Whether or not we change the qb really comes down to the Win column. If we continue to lose, there's no doubt that we pull Chad and play Clemens at some point this year. My guess is that Chad is going to come back this week and get a W against a really porous Philly team that lacks talent on both sides of the ball.

If that High Schoool coach, Edwards gets 5 years, then Mangini gets the same. 5 years to get us a Super Bowl or he is gone also.

Mangini job is safe. However, I just don't understand why he is coaching so much different than last year.

    He is not agressive.

The offense lacks any creativity. (I am sure all of you heard that stat yesterday about the Jets running 95% of the time with a single back, 3-wide formation.)

From what I saw last year, I thought Mangini would be a terrific coach for a long time. Just 5 games in this season, I am already concerned I was wrong. However, it has nothing to do with record. It has to do with how poorly the team is playing in all areas (excluding ST) and how he seems like a different coach.

Listen folks. I'm just as  as any Jet fan but you have to give him more time. I think 1 more year for Tannenbaum and Mangini is fair. I'm unhappy with the offense as well as the defensive line play on both sides of the ball. I'm also scratching my head over still starting Chad but he feels diffrently than we do. Both guys will need to look hard to get things turned around here quickly or show them the door. One more year and then get the broom out to clean house from top to bottom.

The Jets want to build through the draft. It'll take more than three years to assess the job Mangini has done. The Jets were at the bottom when Mangini came and they overachieved last year. Last year was not a building block towards us competing for a division title. We need to just continue to build through the draft (since they won't really sign free agents) and just wait out the current New England run.

It's only been since 1969 since the Jets were in the SuperBowl. What's another 30-40 years?

he isnt trying to build through the draft, look at our past draft, and off season. we gave away picks to end up with two impact players. we gave up a second round pick for a starting back who was unproven as to being a lone everydown back, who isnt getting younger. our leaders thought they were a few players away, and this would allow us to compete now. then they screwed all this up to earn a few brownies, by letting kendall walk, saving money. mangini and tanny couldnt win a dynasty season on madden with moves like these!!!! at the rate bevis and butthead build through drafts , we should make the superbowl............sometime during the next ice age.

i'm telling you, Mangini's coaching style has changed so much from last year because it's a big conspiracy. he's in cahoots with Belichick.

We got a WR who may replace Coles in a year or two and a potential RT we didn't just get two players, we got two players who will contribute in a big way now and 2 players who may contribute in a big way in a year or two

hey biggs....... thats impact players, not hopefuls!!!! do you consider bender to be a big part of our rebuilding for the future? bender was and is a joke! the office used his ass because of the million dollar kendall debacle! i'm not the biggest coles fan in the world, but stuckey only wishes he could ever be a coles. the jones deal was a good one, but the sense of that being true is leaving me. hell i'd rather go through another year of leon being the feature back than watch jones avg 2 yds per carry, give me the draft picks back.
