You criticize the Patriot model as outmoded. What is it that bothers you? Is it the concept or just that it came out of Belichick in New England?

The real situation was that Belichick inherited a team that was a disaster. Bledsoe was shellshocked after getting hammered ever since Bruce Armstrong retired. Ben Coates was two years removed from great and Belichick ended up cutting him. McGinest was not the player that's thought so highly about at that point in his career because he couldn't stay healthy and Belichick only kept him after he took a pay cut. Terry Glenn had one really good year (back in '96) and was such a mental case that Belichick told him during the 2001 season that he'd pay him to just go home. When Belichick came in, he found a team in cap hell who had two of their best players, Bruschi and Troy Brown (you forgot about him) unsigned only days from free agency. He then found out that neither had even been offered a contract while the current gm (Grier) wrestled with his sal cap problems. Like Mangini with the Jets, Belichick knew he had to back the truck up and start over.

Belichick's first object was to get the cap in control and get some breathing room. He did it by dumping older veterans who were no longer playing up to their large contracts. Sound familiar?

Then the Patriots took their small amount of cap money and went after 2nd tier free agents to fill holes to buy time to build through the draft. Are you really sure that this would be foolish for the Jets to do in the new CBA era? If so--why? Seems sound to me if you want to seriously rebuild and not just keep patching over the old problems.

Excellent, excellent post, Tom. The only shame is that you wasted it on that jensen troll.

Due to injuries/insubordination Bledsoe and Glenn were non-factors on the team. Ben Coates was already retired when the Patriots won the Super Bowl. He also never played a game under Belichick. Nice try

You have to start somewhere. Some start with a bang, some start slow, others are just busts. I highly doubt, that tan-gini are busts.

How do you think mangini got to this position? Kissing ass? Or hardwork and strong effort?

Everyone is human and everyone associated with football wants to know what is going on with the sport in every aspect. Im sure they watch the news like a normal human being.

I trust in what they are doing. And soon you will too.

    Just relax and wait.
