Die in a fire, faggot. Too soon? Seriously though, it's nice to see you know there are other players on this team besides Sanchez. Makes your posts much more enjoyable to read. He was a project pick. If vlad is still awful by the end of next season then yes, he sucks.
so 4 out of 128 picks in the second round from 07 to 10. i understand what your saying, i just dont think that its a great idea to sit on guys for 2 or 3 years before they become contributors. and none of that changes the fact that the guy has shown very little so far as being an every down offensive lineman in the nfl.
Another player in the long ass line of busts(whether is be F/A signings or draft picks) from Tannenbaum.
I think you're being paranoid after seeing a freak accident happen. It sucked that Ducasse got Turner hurt, but the odds of that going down the way it did are pretty low. Did you know he was in for nearly 100 snaps in the regular season this year? Only about a quarter of them were on passing downs, but him getting some on field experience is a pretty big step in his development. He made some mistakes like all linemen do but not a lot, and didn't get anyone hurt either.
Well the way this entire forum can't wait to see Sanchez with another OC but something else we should look forward to is Vlad getting a 2nd change with another OL coach/scheme. Vlad has insane strength. On the Ravens/Jets games there was one play where he SINGLE-HANDEDLY moved Ngata. Of course there's no way Vlad can do that whole game but the fact he can even pull this off shows amazing potential. This upcoming season the Jets are going to abandon this zone-blocking scheme. Being a Jets fan, I'm hoping this will turn it around for Vlad because he's drafted by the organization and I'd view him as a player that's been home-grown through this franchise. Also, I want to spend Free Agent $$ on other positions (especially Safety).
I don't think the new coaching staff will have the opportunity to work with him prior to free agency, will they? If that is true, I don't think it would be responsible to assume he's ready to fill in at RT and not bring someone else in to upgrade over Hunter. While I'll defend him as a project rather than a bust, I'm not delusional to think he's ready to start at RT. MAYBE after a full offseason he'd be ready, but I'm not betting Sanchez' life on that. I do think he could be good at RG too, but I'd rather see him workout at RT.
The only thing Vlad would have to do to be elevated to 'superstar status' is put Holmes in a head lock and punch him in the face repeatadly.
I do evaluate this team through green-tinted glasses so it's possible I'm being overly optimistic here. Even with improvement, I don't see Vlad becoming a starter but becoming a solid backup would also be a big improvement. As to whether the coaching staff can work with him prior to FA, I've never considered it. My guess is that it would be up to the player & players usually decline. Injury risk is so high in football, I'm doubting very few people would seriously do a workout without a contract.
kurt u are on fire, nice.... seriously this thing is magnified because of the interesting happenings on recent draft days for the jets - projects in the 2nd round, running backs, qb's friends, etc etc.... all in the backdrop of less draft picks. leaves the room for error razor thin and if u even miss on 1 guy it hits u hard. lets give the guy a chance with a full season and different coach/scheme.
He improved through the season and is a road grader. He needs to keep working on improving. Still has potential to be good.
I don't get all the negativity on Vlad. The kid came in with limited experience and went from being perma-benched to playing a significant amount of snaps and showing some potential. Of course, as a fan I wish he would have already become a starting Olineman and made the Pro Bowl, but at least he's on the right trajectory. Let's at least wait until he has a shot after a real offseason and with a new OC before passing ultimate judgement. Progress has been slow but people act as if this is another Gholston situation. Give the kid a chance.
No, I was just saying that I don't think it's a good idea to not invest in a replacement RT because we have Vlad.
I really don't see any football understanding at all from Vlad the Turnstyle. I hope I'm wrong, but I guess for now he doesn't hurt as long as he's just a big body out there without serious responsibilities.
Excellent point. The Jets will not have the luxury of deciding what to do with the OL until after camp and pre-season, hoping VD improves substantially. They will go into FA and the draft knowing what they know now, and don't know. Knowing what they know now, I don't see how they assume VD will be a contributor to the OL next year. That being the case, they will have to get someone.
Best case scenario IMO, we cut Hunter and replace him with a legit veteran RT, we get Turner back from IR and Vlad blossoms into a real tackle giving us very good depth across the board on the o-line.
