Remember when ARod knocked Jeter saying how easy it was to get big hits when you have all that protection in the lineup? How has that worked out for him?

 We can throw RS and RBI out the window, as you'll note the almost 200 more runs scored the Yankees have then the Pirates. Sanchez is actually hitting a couple points higher then Jeter with RISP and is hitting an amazing .451 with RISP and 2 outs. They have a .006 point difference in BA and a .017 difference in slugging. It's already been said several times that there is a vast gap in OBP and that's what makes Jeter the better player.

I guess you win though junc, because once again you've sparked an irrelevant, off topic debate. Congrats.

Off topic? YOU brought it up, I just ended it.

yeah he's been great. This is why ARod is overrated and not as good as Jeter. As bad as we know he played all year he'll still have fine #s but when we needed him most he was at his worst while jeter helped carry the team through injuries.

 junc has decreed it, so shall it be. after all, jeter does have "more then double" the HR's of Sanchez

it's really no wonder you ignore and don't trust stats from everyone else, seeing how badly you mangle and manipulate to make them fit in your own arguments.

he leads by a significant margin in nearly every category. You are insane for comparing the 2. I understand your hatred/jealousy of the yanks but this takes it to a new level.

They're nearly identical in AVG/SLG and there's a large gap in OBP. I've already said multiple times in this thread that Jeter is the better player but they are similar type hitters. How is this insane? The rest of the categories you cite are either raw numbers(Jeter has nearly an 100 PA advantage over Sanchez) or dependant on the hitters around them in the lineup.

This is my last post on the subject, if you want to indulge your sociopathic need to get the last dig in, be my guest.

You are absolutely nuts. I expect things like this from Shade but not from you.

I am not one to agree with nyjunc, but consider this: There are Mets fans who ACTUALLY THINK Jose Reyes should win the NL MVP.

I think that has more to do with his racial purity. They are creating the master race in Queens.

Derek Jeter is not a product of his lineup or any of that stupid bullshit.

He is not "more valueable" or "less valueable" or any of that trash to his team. That's not what the award is about. It's the award for most outstanding player and it always has been. Why is it so damned literal all of sudden.

However, he is also not the best player in the 2006 American League. Johan Santana is. Jeter is having an outstanding season, but Santana has been untouchable. If Santana was playing for the Mets or Yankees or Red Sox or Cubs, they'd probably replace the ESPN logo with his face. Had Liriano not exploded onto the scene, Santana would probably be getting more attention. But he's not. Whatever. His numbers back him up.

Shade is still making the arguement that Kaz Matsui is a better SS than Jeter, and he is also the "better" Matsui.

Of course Jeter is going to win the MVP. He is a great leader, and has had probably his best season, and there is no other really legit candidate besides maybe Dye.

He'll get the Cy Young...if he wins 20 games than I'm all for him getting the MVP as well. If he doesn't, Jeter or Dye should get it

Wins aren't a legitimate category, not for a pitcher, no way no how.

If Pedro couldn't win the MVP in '99, no pitcher should ever get it.

No, not for anything. Why should a pitcher's run support and bullpen determine his standing in an MVP race?

Quick example. On June 13th, Johan threw 8 innings of 5 hit, 1 run, 13 K baseball but his team couldn't make reasonable dent in the scoreboard until the 12th inning.

Should he be penalized because of this? Of course not.
