Braxton can play. I cannot guess his open market value. 9 sounds kinda high

Just because a number comes floating out of the vapor it doesn't mean anyone would be willing to pay that; it doesn't even mean that anyone would even ask for it. I'm not sure how accurate Spotrac has been lately but they have him at $5.9 million a year on a four year deal. Sign that beast!

I’m ok with giving him close to what he wants per year as long as there’s an out after 2 years.

Hard pass if he's asking for that much. You can find guys like him every year in the draft.

People act like it is their money. Pay the man, he is a security blanket for our QB.

Yeah we have a good track record of finding them in the draft too.

I couldn’t disagree any more with this line of th8nk I guess

    we have a good player…good chemistry…does many things well…durable

and so many think like this…so ready to let good players walk out the door for some perceived threshold…

it’s why we never improve…we suck at drafting and then we let good players go so we create more holes

when you let him go for a couple million then you now need to go find a great KR and PR…and you need a solid dependable #3/#4 type WR

all this bullshit about finding them in the draft every year is crap…that’s what’s gotten us the Chad Hanson’s and Ardarius Stewart’s of the world

seriously this is such bad planning

again…I’m not saying pay him #1 starter money…but $7m-$9m range with a well structured deal and outs I’d be all over

It’s about leverage. If you pay Berrios who is a decent player but a 3/4 WR as you stated $7-9 mil it sends a message to the rest of the team that we will overpay and then negotiations can get ugly. It also sends a message to agents in free agency that the Jets will over pay.

It’s not about the player who had 6/7 decent games in a contract year. It’s about the team as a whole and what is deserved.

Three weeks ago I would have said that he has to be brought back. After thinking about it, I'd probably not go crazy signing him.

I think part of the reason everyone loved him, was because he was a 6th receiver making 850k. He came out of nowhere and was pretty impressive. But at the end of the day he was a good kick returner and a middling WR. If the rumors are true and he wants 9M per year, thats going to put him somewhere in the vicinity of the 15th highest paid receiver. I'm not paying Berrios top 15 WR money, despite how much fun he was last year.

This is how I see it too. But what do I know. If Joe D signs him for 9 mil and he isn’t worth the contract, I will bitch about it. If he doesn’t sign him and he goes elsewhere and proves his worth, I will bitch again.

Belichick is also a massive Jets troll.

Totally disagree with this reasoning. Paying Berrios shows players and agents that if you bust your ass and play above and beyond your capabilities you will be rewarded. Absolutely the kind of message i want to send.

Berrios is filling several holes ATM by being a WR and returner. Lets not forget without Berrios return TD last year we likely lose to Jacksonville.

Is the solution signing another WR for 5-6 million, and a returner for 1-2 million? Maybe we save a million here or there but we let a guy that has great chemistry with our young QB walk. We make that mistake too much. I can get on board with 3 years for 24 million, with only 14 million guaranteed.

If he was a legit WR3 then I get your point but he's a WR4.

If he was the starting slot guy, how does he stack up against the rest of the league's starting slot guys?

we already did that with JFM. paying berrios 9 mil shows the league we are willing to overpay people. JD paid cole 4 mil to be WR4 and cut down crowder to 4 mil to be WR3. berrios wants more then both of them combined got last year. he's a good player but not worth that much. beasley was widely regarded as the best slot WR when he signed his deal and got 7.5mil a year. WR3 shouldn't be getting more then 7 mil really unless they are the best one. berrios is a WR4 and KR/PR
