Maybe Pettine is trying to do in Cleveland what Rex did here. Good or bad a lot more people talked about the Jets in 2009 then they did in years before that. Even when we were making the playoffs every other year with Chad the Jets never got true national attention until Rex got here. Im sure defense isnt the only thing Pettine learned from being under Rex for so long. He knew this story would get people talking..about him specifically. The only talk about the Browns this offseason was Manziel and Gordon. I bet a lot of people didnt even know the Browns head coach before this story got out.
How can you compare what Rex did in '09 to what Mike Pettine is doing now? Not even. What an asshole Pettine has turned out to be. From the leaks to this, what a lowlife.
I agree Pettine is a weasel..but whats he supposed to say? That he's not there to kiss Tomlin's and Harbaugh's rings? Wouldn't come off as well considering the Browns dont really have a main rival like we do. Belichick was the clear target here for Rex. For all we know there might not be any bad blood between him and Rex but he wants to mix it up in the media the same way Rex did when he got here. Just has to go about it a different way. But Im not really trying to compare the two situations or even make an excuse for Pettine. I just think he's trying to give Cleveland some national recognition..sure they gained that with Manziel but he could be a dud and be done in 2 years. After all graduating from the class of Rex doesn't just give you a good defensive mind.
There about about 100 ways you can bring attention to your team if publicity is what you seek. You can say that Pit is a dirty team, that Cin is overrated, that Bal's QB contract is backfired. You can say that you believe your Cle will be making SB run within X years, that Manziel is a better QB than Flacco and Big Ben combined. You ARE making excuses for Pettine, and pretty lame ones too.
Well then he got national attention by accident. Pettine might be a rat but I doubt he's a fool too. He knows what makes headlines and how Rex built the Jets up partly by talking. I think he's hoping for a little of the same.

Exactly. What is like to know is why he is doing it? The piece of shit got his dream job and now instead of focusing on improving Browns he takes shot at the man who brought him up.
Yeah, I don't know why he took those shots, but he took them. It wasn't about the Browns, it was about disparaging those two guys. Two birds, one stone.
