Here's the Newsday article referenced in the OP.

I don't see Elway and the Broncos allowing their All-Pro receiver to leave (i.e., D. Thomas has to be a higher priority to J. Thomas). Still, one can hope. If it doesn't kill the cap for years to come, acquiring D. Thomas would be great for the Jets. Combining him with Decker and Harvin, it would create the strongest receiving corp the Jets have ever had -- at least, better that the Coles/Chrebet/Moss or Edwards/Holmes/Cotchery groupings. Can't see how any Jet fan wouldn't be in favor of this.

If they went out and signed him we could certainly pass in cooper if he falls and focus on ol or olb. Any veteran QB could come in and succeed with dt decker and HardinHardin

I think we have a better chance of being named as a replacement team for NE to play in the SB next week than getting Thomas.

why? He could leave in free agency easily and if the Jets or anyone really wants him they will get him if they offer the most $$.

It's not a foregone conclusion by any means that Denver will keep him off the market and that day is rapidly approaching.

The Jets are not breaking the bank on another FA WR, not happening.

It is absolutely a foregone conclusion they keep him. Peyton or no Peyton he is their best offensive skill player. Absolutely no chance they move on without DT ESPECIALLY if Peyton doesn't come back. He will never hit the street, and if they don't agree on a deal they'll franchise him.

Make it 200% with my added 100. Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE for the Jets to sign him. But it's the definition of pipe dream.

It's definitely unlikely they let him test the waters but it's not a slam dunk. They have a lot of decisions to make there and their $$ are stretched. I'm not so sure he's there for the long haul.

If there is anyone on that team who is going to be there long haul it's DT. He's young, they will need his talent when the next QB comes along and he's young. Absolutely NO WAY they let him walk. You build around him, CJ Anderson and Sanders. He's situation proof over there. His numbers are also incredible and in lock step with Calvin Johnson. The man is going nowhere guys.

Julius Thomas is another story and really this is the Thomas we should be discussing.

If we can keep Harvin and Decker together, and add Julius while Amaro develops we could have something serious in the making. In fact if Julius hits the market I'd throw the bank at him.

Although realistically speaking they're likely to franchise Julius and outright re-sign DT.

I'm not saying it would be smart for them to let him walk I'm just saying it's possible. They have doofus Elway running things after all.

It's not even about "letting him walk" though.. it's letting him test the market. If he gets even a sniff of the open market he will be tough for them to hang onto because someone will offer him a megadeal and Denver might not be able to match.

And yes I'd be interested in Julius Thomas if possible as well. I worry more about his game translating outside of Manning/Denver though than I do about Demaryius

Interesting point I thought of about Demaryius Thomas: even Oakland from 5 years ago isn't that stupid.

Doofus Elway who built one of the most prolific offenses in NFL history overnight?

DT will absolutely not hit the street. It's of course possible, but it's 99.9% not happening.

Julius has insane speed, and body control for a guy his size. I wouldn't be too worried about him. He's the new Gates.

You are probably right, but when you're paying your QB upwards of $18 M per year, something has to give. Elway went all in last year trying to beef up the defense, bringing in Talib and DeMarcus Ware.

I don't know the particulars of the roster / cap situation in Denver. But you can't pay everybody.

I think there's absolutely zero possibility that Harvin gets 10 mil anywhere. He's taking a pay cut no matter what, it's just a matter of whether the Jets restructure and give him some guaranteed money (of which he has none) or they cut him and he gets what he can somewhere else.
