Talk about backing up your claim with evidence.

Schottenheimer did the same crap under Mangini. He's clearly a good coach and is very successful with the run game, but his playcalling leaves a ton to be desired.

If he gets hired as some team's HC we won't miss a beat.

Like reading a great novel and finding out the last 50 pages were ripped out. What the hell is that. Sort of like the Sopranos ending.

Well you cant blame Rex because this has been shcottys play calling right from the beginning. Not sure how that can be disputed. Would love to join in the "i hate to blame shcotty for this" but the guy has more weapons than he has ever had and still, even when calling a more aggressive passing game (count wise)....stays conservative.

Our O is pretty damn good now and he's done a great job developing Sanchez. You have to look at the circumstances.

2006 he had Chad healthy and we had a good year despite our #1 RB being Kevan Barlow.

2007: Chad was hurt week 1 and he split w/ Kellen Clemens and our OL stunk

    2008: Favre sabotaged our season

2009: he had a rookie QB

Brian Schottenheimer is thought highly around the league for good reason, we are lucky to have him.

I doubt Rex's defensive playcalling ability has anything to do with Shittenheimer and his offensive playcalling. But the article is totally right about him not being able to attack a defense's weaknesses. It's really pathetic and he is really the #1 thing holding this team back.

The items you listed have nothing to do with play calling. Chad's injury and Favre's up and down season have nothing to do with the fact that Schottenheimer will often drain the offense of its momentum by overdoing it with reads and shifts presnap, that he'll get too cute and outthink himself, that he'll do ridiculous things like have Tony Richardson line up in the flat. Why not just send 10 guys on the field? He isn't fooling anyone.

Schottenheimer is good but he's far from great. The performance of the offense is always underachieving in comparison to the talent level, where as the defense under Rex and Pettine has been overachieving when compared to the talent level. Because Rex is a defensive guy he expects the defense to carry the team which is all good and swell, but when you compare raw talent between the two units the offense has the defense beat in a landslide. The defense may have the best player on the team in Revis but then the next 5 or 6 most talented players on the team are all on offense.

The greatest contribution Schottenheimer is making to this team is the development of Sanchez. It can't be overstated how far along this young kid has come. The Jets can realistically expect Sanchez to perform like a veteran because of his development. Even with that though, the playcalling at many times keeps the offense from achieving even greater heights than they've already reached.

An experienced Sanchez combined with an offensive coordinator who gets the most out of his unit will make this offense look ridiculously awesome. Top 5 awesome, assuming all this talent is still around whenever the change occurs. I also don't expect the change to happen through Schotty getting fired, but rather through him receiving a head coaching job, because as you say junc, he is very highly regarded and respected around the league. It is only a matter of time before the move is made.

You misstate the case the article makes. For starters you and the other Schotty haters insistently ignore the fact that Ryan is ultimately responsible for the performance of the Jet Offense. Schotty reports to him, and presumably it is at Ryan's discretion whether or not he stays, and did stay into this year.

The argument is made that the Jets O, and we know Ryan's view of it as ground and pound, corresponds to his approach to D. Beyond that the question of whether the Jets play the same against everybody is also raised.

So, why is it such a crazy idea that Ryan has chosen the type of offensive approach the Jets have?

Do you really think if Ryan did not like their approach to O, he would not have done something about it? The fact that Ryan is the HC and the Jets play the type of O they do is all you need to know about Ryan's responsibility for running that kind of O. Either by omission or commission, he is responsible.

It has to do w/ production, fans see a play fail and they blame the OC when if executed properly it should work. W/ new QBs every year, rookie QBs, turnover prone QBs it will make any OC's playcalling look bad.

We could do alot worse than brian, I expect this offense to take off in the coming years as Sanchez is fully developed. Our O has been really good most of the year besides 2 games- one where the HC was afraid of the opposing D and the other had more to do w/ the conditions. I will be sad to see him go- hopefully it's with a SB ring.

i guess in the end of the day it only matters right now if our offensive schme will give the pats trouble and I think it will.
