Wow I think you guys are failing to realize that this is the Titans who have among the best rush defenses in the NFL. If Sanchez had shown the consistency throughout the game he did in the 1st quarter we woudl have much more succes running the ball.
He's no different than last year or the year before, that's just how he plays. Last year he had Favre spreading the field and better blocking, but he still had trouble finding the hole and went down like a $10 hooker.. that's why people have been saying he's expendable.
Even, I, who has complained about Thomas Jones' lackluster performances this year, gave him a pass today. A) The Titans have the best run defense in the league. B) The Jets did not gameplan for the run. C) The offensive line did not play well.
The OL hasn't played well all year and I don't understand that. Same guys, same coaches, yet they don't look like they did last year.
Eeek Gads... we're 3-0 and already some of you are questioning the mad-like genuis of Rex Ryan and who should be starting?? Run, don't walk, to the store and purchase some gasoline, lighter fluid, and a lighter and well... light yourselves on fire you unbelievers!!! Seriously... TJ still has some juice and we're going to milk that cat dry. When he starts being truly un-useful like I expect to see him out to pasture. We played a tough defense today and came away with the win. Remember when those things didn't use to happen?
Last year it took the offensive line about 5 or 6 games to really get rolling and run blocking well. It looks like we might be seeing the same thing for this group this year. Here's the deal: The Jets will have to run the ball better to beat the Saints. A lot better.
Teams are stacking the box against Sanchez. Teams feared Brett's arm last year, Sanchez doesn't have that quite yet. When he does the running game should then opening up more
If you look at Leon's runs, many of them came on gimmock plays, where he would get a direct snap. If they werent those, they were draw plays. You can only do so many of those a game. I agree, clearly TJ didnt get it done today. But keep in perspective the Titans gameplan was to stop the run. TJ got hit in the backfield on nearly every carry. The oline needs to play better than it did today, but it should be noted that the Titans have one of the best front 4s in the league.
The Titans are number 1 against the run, take a breather man, we see your post and we understand them quite well no need to jump on people because they see things differently.
Smashmouth also means 2 tight ends and power I formations, the Jets went 3 and out 5 times because they got pass happy, and they let the Titans in the game because the Sanchez fumble, I think Schott needs to change the personnel he uses because using Keller off the line of scrimmage as a receiver was not helping their running game.
The Jets were running primarily on 1st and 2nd downs during that portion of the game when they were going "3 and out".....causing a lot of 3rd and longs. It's not all on TJ.....but he has to run better.....even if he's hit at the LOS.....start churning those fucking legs instead of doing a header into the turf......
hmmm...i started a thread about this in week 1 and was ridiculed and told my thread was "the worst thread of the day." i said he wasnt showing burst and wasnt running downhill... i said its just an observation but and i still retarded for making it?
i think the answer to your question came in the first sentence of your post and didn't he finish with 100+ yds week one?
I was about to write a comment about the fact that we haven't been running to the outside at all, NOT AT ALL.
While there is a litany of running backs that have deteriorated in their 30s, Thomas Jones running for 1,500 yard last year was not just luck. If we ran the same offensive scheme that we did last year and Jones sucked, I could buy the idea that he might be done. The fact that we have him splitting carries evenly with Leon and we have been airing the ball out tells another story. Also, our matchups with our first three opponents haven't done TJ any favors. I am very interested to see how our rushing attack does next week if we stick with it.
Frankly the entire offensive line was a concern today I saw pressure in Sanchez's face much more than I hoped and then we failed in the running game, and keep in mind there is no Albert Haynsworth this time around
They didn't do our runningbacks any favors today that's for sure. I wouldn't be so quick to diss the Titans DL. They felt comfortable letting Haynesworth go for a reason. Some of their young defensive linemen are going to be very good.
