As I recall, the issue with identifying which shark species was responsible was that it is out of character for either of the two likely ones. Bull sharks are tropical water fish and the coastal waters are temperate so they are infrequent visitors at best, but they do swim up river into mostly fresh water. Whites are a temperate water species but don't swim into fresh water much if at all. I believe there was some suggestion that there was an extremely high tide at the time of the attacks that may have raised the salinity of the creek, but can't recall where I saw that. It all just adds to the mystique and notoriety of the attacks. It's likely that more than one shark was involved and that the one they caught had absolutely nothing to do with them.
Back when I was twelve and they unchained me from the workbench early I went looking for hookers, not some brackish shark infested swimming hole.
Around the corner from me they took the quicker route and just shot the lead at each other last night
