how are we paying the price? based on average success rates those trade ups cost us, probably, a couple of back-up players (if that).
Answer: either more than we can afford to pay...or not too much to lock him up around 12-14. I think any deal would be contingent on trading partner accepting at least a significant share of payment by way of 2013 pick/replaceable contributor from our roster (maybe as much as Keller)
Richardson is the best RB I've seen since Peterson. I think that's the general consensus. And he's also as much of a can't miss as I've seen in a long time. Wny people can't see this and complain about at least conversations of why we should move up for him is beyond me. Were not in position to bet the farm on anyone. That being said with some questionable picks over the last few years I for one wouldn't care if we traded up for richardson. In fact I think he's the best football player in this draft. Its funny how the rule changes have devalued the rb position. I heard a stat though that half of the top 15 rushers last year came within the 1st rd. Two thirds within the 1st two. So this new idea of who cares you can find guys in the 4th is overblown IMO. Id much rather us sacrifice alot for richardson than see us trade up for Ingram. And even though there's talks of smokescreening I do bleive rex sees adalius thomas in INgram. I can't wait to see how it plays out. A dream pick for me would be Keuchley. But im hearing if richardson is gone and claiborne is gone. Or if the bucs plan on playing more zone under schiano Keuchley is a good pick for them. They've been dying for a LBer impact since Brooks left unceremoniously
I'd imagine it'd be something along the lines of swapping this years 1st, this years 2nd. Next years 1st and 3rd and maybe Kyle Wilson or Cromartie. Moving up 14 spots ain't gonna be cheap, but Richardson would be a perfect fit in our ground game. Might be worth it.
The only runningback worth trading up for in this NFL, the pass-first NFL, would be the next Marshall Faulk. You'd need a RB who can split out wide and force a CB to cover him now and then and who is excellent in the passing game, both in protection and as a receiver in all facets of the game.
Richardson is a complete back and he can catch the ball. In a rotation wit Greene we could pound the rock all day and open up the playaction like we did in 09/10 again. That's the key to our success, RUN THE DAMN BALL. Rex is always going to put a solid defense on the field based on scheme alone. The more I look at Richardson, the more I think we should go get him, and I was completely against a RB two months ago.
This team doesnt fit into that “pass-first NFL”... Bradway, you should know that. Thats jut the identity of this team. While Rex and Sparano are, this team will not reflect the “pass-first NFL” ever. Trent Richardson embodies everything that this team needs and would impact this team in a way no other prospect could.
Trading up for Richardson would be the sexy, smexy thing to do. He's an excellent prospect at RB. The Jets would still go 8-8 next year with him though. That's because trading up for him means no significant upgrades at RT, LG, FS, LILB, ROLB, WR, etc. This team has fundamental issues with both frontline talent and depth. Trading 2/3's of the draft for a Position that is actually better stocked than most and at which you can usually find cheap talent that works (unless you're the Jets) is not going to help us next year. It's going to make us worse. And I think Richardson might well go for 1,400 yards while that was happening. Look at the list of rushing leaders recently. Look who they played for. It's not a happy title to hold at the moment.
Rich Cimini @RichCimini At NFL event today, Trent Richardson said #Jets called him Sunday to verify correct contact info just in case they trade up for him. Hmm

The Jets should not be trading up for anyone. Period. TR is a great RB prospect but not worth what the Jets will have to pay.
This would be amazing im so excited but we still need Oline help!! if we give up 1 and 3 and next years 1 than honestly I think round 2 we need to get best RT or oline, Resign edwards and get bell from miami from safety.
Yeah, ESPN just talked about Jets moving up to 3 or 4 for Richardson..of course that is ESPN..My guess is if he gets past Cleveland the Jets do try to make a move..more like to 9 or 10 if he is still there.
Who know this is great news!! We can pound the rock all day!! and if we sign edwards and him and holmes are back to 2010 form!! only problem is we need a RT so lets hope we have a 2nd or 3rd to burn on that!! I think we also need to sign miami s bell and then we are all set to go!!
Br4dway, You make alot of good points about depth and final results if we sacrifice picks. But if we don't hit on the extra 2 maybe 3 picks it would cost the whole depth argument goes out the window. Wilson made great progress last year but by value standards that's a pick wasting away. Ducasse is in this boat too. And this is coming from someone who gave ducasse a 1st rd grade talent wise coming out. Is it possible with our looming cap situation in 2013 even after cutting guys like pace and scott That they're willing to trade just to have less contracts on the books? That seems like a silly question but one not outside the realm of possibility
Something just occured to me. What if the jets are trading shonn greene in lieu of losing a 2nd or 3rd rd pick? Something like swapping 1sts with cleveland, shonn greene, and a 2nd rd pick.? Cleveland has holes all over and would get a B+ running back with another early pick to address depth. Just kicking around theories cause this could all be smokescreening
