Wow... someone go find my thread about trusting our kicker and bump it, that was just awful that they didn't kick IMO... Guys hes a good kicker, we just haven't gotten a chance to see what he can do because we are all too busy dwelling on week 1...

I think you said it all in your stats. He was 7 for 8 in 2003. He got 8 attempts. He has one this year. Three in his career. His first one in 2003 from 52 he missed as well...but it didn't stop Tressel from giving him the ball again.

Well put. If they aren't going to trust him, I hope they let him go so he has a chance at another place.

Yea, and then you would be putting that college degree to work sooner then expected because no one in the NFL would ever even think about signing you.

Maybe he layed a lot of TECMO BOWL for NES. I don't think I ever tried a field goal in that game. TD or bust baby!!!

One thing is clear, we will have a new kicker nextyear. This CS absolutely has no faith in Nugent. There were 6 minutes left and we needed two scores, one of them being a FG. If the CS had even an ounce of faith in Nugent he is lining up for the FG.

I agree, Magini didn't pick Nugent, so he doesn't feel the need to validate the picky by keeping him around. I would be surprised if Nugent is still in a Jets uniform next year.

I understand exactly what you're saying. On the flipside though, if you are Eric Mangini and you see Nugent having trouble kicking the ball 60 yards in the air on kickoffs, when he has the low trajectories to work with, how exactly do you get the confidence to try him from the 33 yard line when you know he's going to have to loft the ball a bit to cutout the possibility of a block?

It's a nasty all-around equation for the coaching staff to deal with and until Nugent starts pasting some kickoffs it's not going to change.

Another thing, I have seen alot of people mentioning swirling wind as a factor in the decision. There were no swirling winds in that stadium yesterday, that was as mild a day as you will get in the Meadowlands in the middle of November.

I must agree here. We have to give him a chance from 49 yards. That is insulting that Mangini did not call his number in that situation.

Granted, Nugent has let doubt creep into the picture on several closer than 489 yards, and that is in large part why they may be taking baby steps right now with him.

I say it is time to take the reins off and sink or swim with Nugent as a kicker.
    I could live with decent productivity to 50 yards. By that I mean 30 and in, nearly automatic, 98.9%. 30 - 40 yards, 95% or better. 40 - 45 yards, 85% or better. 45 -50 yards, 70% or better. 50 - 55 yards, 40% or so.

I'm going to be disappointed if he is cut and suddenly makes clutch FGs for another team like the Redskins...and then there will be plenty of people here saying "we should've given him a chance."

Nugent seemed okay in warm ups. Made some deep kicks.

I think Mangini didn't want to be down 10-3, he wanted 10-7.

    Sadly he got 10-0.

I don't have a problem with going for it on 4th and 7 rather than the kick. I think the chances of making a 49 yarder and gettting a first down are about the same (each somewhere around 50-50). And going for for the first down has bigger upside. However, to give the ball up (punting) after the penalty seems like you're just giving the game away. Even after the penalty either choice (FG or pass) would have been preferable than the punt.
