But the Yankees are successful and sign guys to win. The fans are already into it. The Mets do it to generate revenue.

Way to go, DBJ. I'll be the first to say I have bouts of impatience, but it's more in an all-encompassing sort of way. A blanket effect, like HOLY how much longer do I have to wait, I'm gonna die before I see another...like that. However, what's the point of instant gratification if it only make us have to wait even longer still in the end? I'm perfectly willing after all these years without a Championship to sit back and bide our time for a few more, see how the New Crew puts it in motion. Of course I WANT TO WIN NOW, but what's a couple of years against the 37 already suffered through? Well, I'm sure you get me. The rush rush mentality makes no sense here.

    Good post DBJ.

I read your posts and i always notice you post things to be agreed upon, why dont you dig deep inside and post how you really feel on what players we should get. Or what should we do, i would really like to see that.

    Good post nonetheless.

I hate these stupid, ego generated thread titles. You don't work for the New York Times, DeathbyJets. Get over yourself. You're not as clever as you think you are. Your titles are not as interesting as you think they are. And you're not as self important as you think you are. Just be a regular Jets fan (uneducated and somewhat stupid) and stop trying to impress us with your sub-par writing talent. It's annoying.

This is why you got my vote for most likely to go postal.

DBJ, I think these guys want to build through the draft, and keep cap room for signing any players that become part of this team's core players. That sort of strategy lends itself to being competitive in the long term. Perenial playoff/ division title contenders. Teams that over pay for big name FA's are unable to keep the guys thay want down the road, and those teams that go after a lot of big FA's usually have a hard time over the long haul, like Washington.

Seattle should have locked up Hutchinson LAST year.... now, they've lost him. Keeping available cap space would have saved them from that. Look at the high priced DB's NE has allowed to walk. Milloy, Law, but they weren't considered to be core guys, like Teddy, Seymour and that beast of a NT. They even realise that Vinatieri is expendable.

Nice job, and a post any football savy person would agree with.

im starting to believe mangini wants to build a foundation with the veterans. and then use the draft to bring his core 10 young players that will probably sit behind and learn from the vets .. one thing we can all agree on if mangini is anything like bellicheck he should be damn good at developing his young talant.

Having a bad day? I have to wonder what throne you sit upon to judge people so harshly?

For the thinkers and dreamers I enjoy your posts DBJ, keep up the good work:up:

Exactly. The Yankees at least win with the over priced talent they sign. The Mets do not.

If by winning you mean not winning a world series in 5 years and horribly choking in the 2004 ALCS to your archrivals that you used to own for about 100 years then congratz.

Well?.since you asked?.this is what I think (although I am not necessarily hard-over on anything):

Free Agency: To be honest, I am not particularly impressed with the free agents that have been available. With the exception of LeCharles Bentley (who I think was never really an option due to his asking price), there wasn?t anyone out there that I looked at and said ?man?we?ve got to have him?. I?d rather not pay top-shelf prices for slightly above average players. So, I am not too broken up about the lack of movement. While, it is hard to get excited about some aging veterans, the idea of bringing in Willie McGinist is growing on me. This kinda reminds me of when Parcells brought in Bryan Cox?..a veteran leader to motivate the defense. I think the front office is doing fine waiting. Let the high priced guys get sucked up by the Dan Snyder?s and get moderate talent at bargain basement prices. Also, keep in mind there is usually a run on free agents in June/July. The less we spend now, the more will be available to pick up a valuable puzzle piece later (remember this is when we picked up Pete Kendell).

Trades: I would love to get a mid-first rounder for Abraham, but I am skeptical that it will happen. I think the best we will get is Denver?s 29th pick. I really like getting Ramsey for a second day pick. I believe his confidence was messed up by Spurrier and he was completely shafted by Gibbs. I think Ramsey could be a more than adequate starting NFL QB given the right set of circumstances. I also believe he fits the Tangini tough/smart mold.

Draft: Before I state anything here, let me say that any of the top ten names are probably going to be a great addition to the team?.we need help in so many spots that no pick is a bad one (unless we reach horribly). For me personally, I would prefer not to draft a QB. I think Pennington/Ramsey/Bollinger provide enough to evaluate this season before we decide that we need to take a ?QB of the future?. If that group of QBs stink it up, we will be back in the top 10 next year looking for that franchise QB. If we must go QB, I would rather see a second tier guy get selected in round 2. I also think that the number 4 pick is too high to take an offensive lineman. I think you can get excellent linemen later in the draft. The other option at the number 4 is defense?.either Mario Williams or AJ Hawk. Now while I think either could be sensational players for us, I have a hard time justifying going defense given the current state of our offense. So where does that leave us?I really think we need a big-time RB (Williams or White). While Curtis has been a workhorse for us, he is getting old and honestly has not been a strike-fear-in-the-heart-of-our-opponent type of player in years. The problem is you can?t take a RB at #4. I think we need to trade down?.but finding someone who wants to trade up is not going to be easy. Regardless of who we take first, I believe we must come out of this draft with the following positions addressed: RB, LT (Jones moves back to RT), C, DT and perhaps QB.

    So, there you have it.

Actually the Yankee's won mainly on the sholulders of their homegrown talent. Look at the core - Jeter, Rivera, Petite, Bernie, Posada, etc. It shows that as that core ages past their prime no amount of FA's they sign guarentee the WS.

I'm excited to see that the Mets have started a nice young core themselves. Whether or not we can translate that into a WS remains to be seen. Either way I really doubt that Wilpon(and Doubleday when he was here) were only interested in profits and not motivated by winning at all. If they were I guess they could have made millions as actors too.

I totally agree DBJ. The only change is, what about Kitna vs. Ramsey? I think Kitna would be a very credible challenging QB.

I am glad we are taking our time with FA signings. I also agree that we are probably looking at getting only the 22nd or 29th pick for Abe. I really can't see the Lions giving up their #9 for him. I just don't think that is a realistic value.

So far, I like what I see from the young crew. Look at how far they have come already. We can't judge them on the player end yet, but look at the incredible mess Mangini and company were handed back in January and look at where we are now, just 2 and a half months later. Pretty darned good I think, all things considered.

I just want people to think back to a year where the Jets were very active in free agency. They grabbed a qb who had just lost a superbowl, 2 elite tackles, a very capable back up qb, and a WR who was familiar with the qb. The overpaid for each of them.

That year 1996... the season is not won in March

Now THAT'S more like it. Stay within your own talent level. You'll feel better, and the rest of us won't be annoyed from suffering through your not so clever thread titles.

Great point. 1996 - we flat out stank for no apparent reason other than one, Rich Kotite.

Totally, completely, uncalled for. I don't care if he named his thread title, "A Penny for your thoughts", it is all about content. If DBJ did use that thread title I mentioned, one caveat would be that we may not be interested in yours.
