Most of that yardage came on 2 fluke plays, McGuires run for 69 yards and Powell's self tackle and run for 75 yards. The o line was average at best.
I miss our "Brick of Gold" in Ferguson & Mangold. I'd love an explosive Franchise HB, a dominant outside pass rusher or a true #1 WR etc but after the drafting of Sam Darnold; i wouldn't mind drafting an LT with our 1st round pick come next year's draft while finding a potential F.A Center to break the bank on. It's time to completely re-build our O-Line. Especially after just selecting a franchise hopeful of a QB in Sam Darnold.
McGuires was pure speed, 2 LBs in position miss tackles, the secondary we're just flat out burned. The whole game was fluky. The fake punt at the half, Miles nearly tackles Williams, then Lachlan celebrating forgets to take the field to hold for the field goal, penalty and missed FG followed. It was like both teams were trying to lose....
It was pretty wild. Up 10 in the 4th, offense in the red zone then McCowns awful pass backwards resulting in 80 yard recovery and TD by Jack. Jets had nearly 500 yards of offense and only net 23 points in an overtime game. Ugh.
The situation is worse than you think. Since the Brick Mangold draft the Jets have only drafted 2 Offensive lineman in the first three rounds, Vlad Ducasse and Brian Winters. Those are the only two high picks on the line in the last 12 years going over several GM and coach combos. Its an organizational mindset that I would love to see changed.
That's a great point. If I could add one thing further--Nothing underscores how BAD the CURRENT jets OL is than the fact that Mike Mac is relying upon the same RESERVE OL as last year. Dozier, Ben I. Brett could not even crack the NFL's SECOND WORST offensive line LAST YEAR. So why bring the same scrubs back THIS year (which they did)? Sign/draft some guys who might offer a little competition to the current group of underachieving starters!
No doubt we d all love the Dallas cowboys o line I think with Darnold on board the offense will get some more attention and love One question- who is Brett?
The trouble is that we haven't had a solution at QB until this year that most of the effort went to bringing in talent to offset that lack. I think with the drafting of Darnold and (hopefully) him being the solution to that position that the FO can now look at upgrading talent to surround him.
Yeah, my bad. I meant Brent Qvale, not Brett. He, Harrison, Dozier, and Ben I. all were backups last year. Surprising to me the jets are bringing them all back since they could not crack the 2nd worst OL in the NFL last year.
