I'm sorry but our schedule doesn't look scary anymore

As a fan I look at the schedule as much as anyone, but I really am averse to talking results too far down the road, especially after a narrow win against a weak opponent. Can't get much traction out of that, but on a more visceral level, I want to enjoy the season one game at a time.

I said it when the schedule first came out that a lot of these games are winnable for us. These teams have poor defenses. If our offense puts up points and the defense contains their offense we can win. Obviously the Jets have to execute.

NFL is so week to week. We could look horrible this week, Bears could go into San Fran and win and everyone will be thinking we'll get killed on Monday Night.

Detroit is a paper team. If they werent they would've beat the Giants 45-7 last Monday. Their offense is top 5 in the league but the D isnt great. Plus they seem to play better at home in their controlled climate. Our gameplan going into that game will be the key. Chicago can be handled. So can San Diego. Niether of those teams worry me but they will both be hard games. Id take 1-1.

If we can get out of this stretch 3-4 its a huge win. Especially considering @KC isnt looking too hard at this point either. Anything better than 3-4 and watch out!

I'd sign up for 4-3 after Pats

This next game will tell me all I need to know, in the short term, how this team is going to fare this year.

They were embarrassed by their win last Sunday. They knew it should have been a blow out...Rex knows it should have been a blow out. They DID dominate that team and yet all anyone can talk about, rightfully so, is the ridiculous penalties.

I'm honestly giving a pass to Geno for the INT AND fumble... I think he learned two important things on both of those turnovers. Slide and do not think your arm is better than a sure fire Hall of Fame player.

I love Rex Ryan but one of my nagging knocks on the guy is from week to week how he addresses certain things. I want to see how CLEANLY we play on Sunday. I firmly believe that if we play a 1 or 2 penalty game and keep the turn overs to zero we win that game. The best place for Aaron Rodgers is on the sidelines and THAT is exactly how our team is built. To keep the O on the bench. But our O has got to finish drives with points...not with 10 yd. penalties giving us 2/3rd and 20...where Hawk and company can pin their ears and blitz. That goes for Green Bay and most definitely Detroit. Those two offenses are best left on the sideline.

I'm absolutely giddy how our defense played last week and am waiting with abated breath for this Sunday's game. I really hope this year's Jets show me that they can learn from week to week and apply what they have learned. Primarily...DO NOT HOLD!!!

    lmao

Fair enough, but I dont know whats our answer to Megatron. Plus who wins in the battle of Jets offense vs. Lions defense.

We have to play perfect to win. That's what's troubling, because Geno can have a meltdown at any moment. We don't have enough firepower in the offense where we can recover from turnovers. The Raiders are a bad team and look at how close the score ended up being.

They won one game against a weak opponent. Granted, they dominated except for mental errors, and look like a team with a lot of potential. I think they can compete with all those teams but they could win them all and they could lose them all.

No, the one thing I hate about this schedule is the QB's we are facing, they are good, experienced and there is nothing Rex can do to intimidate them.

They can make the jets pay instantly if Rex gets blitz happy.

The other issue we have to deal with, is Eugene plays out of the shotgun formation way too much.

If the jets want to establish the running game and control the flow of the game, Eugene has to learn to play under center.

The jets will not get away with some of the play calling they pulled on the raiders.

The Bears will most likely be 0-2 when they play us (I don't think they have a shot in SF in primetime).

Do you guys think that's a good thing or a bad thing? I think if it were Manning, Brady, Brees or Rodgers I'd HATE it because you know there's no way they'd go to 0-3 and they'd come out pissed and just will the team to victory. I actually like it with Cutler though. He's kind of a baby and I can see him getting flustered and let the team fall apart, especially going into his 2nd straight primetime game, on the road, already 0-2.

Agree except Raiders are not that bad of a team. Their defense let up 1 TD in 2 plus quarters against the Packers starters in preseason. I know it is preseason. Also, Eddie Lacy was playing and probably won't be this week.

Yeah. Five teams with a pass happy offense against our worst secondary in years?
Megatron will beat us worse than Charles Bronson beats up a mugger.

Love this optimism...Kudos to you Dan.

Unfortunately, IMHO there are NEVER any NFl games you should "not fear "or say we can "handle them". Better to adopt " they are better than last game " philosophy because underestimating any opponent is a script for sure disaster. Notice how even Rex is kinda zippering his mouth a little.

Bears, Packers, Broncos, Pats, and even Lions are playoff caliber teams. The only team I might say is good possible win are Chargers since my gut just says so lol. Jets have the potential for greatness ......still say we go 10-6.

The problem with this team going against us like teams like gb, chi, det, den is that these teams have a propensity to get the big offensive play. With big time quarterbacks and big time wr's we could play a great defensive game against these teams for most of the game, but a few big plays against us on the defensive end could lose the game for us because our offense doesn't consistently move the chains and score TDs in the red zone.

Look at last year for a few examples...
NE: Brady to Dobson 39 yard TD. Only real offensive play they had.
Pitt :One big pass play from Big Ben to sanders 55yard TD in the 3rd ... Game over
Baltimore: flacco to Jacoby jones for 66 yard TD in the 3rd ... Game over

Look, we let up the big play to James jones last week in crunch time when we could have put the raiders away for good.

Even with our weak secondary, our D is going to have to carry us again this year like it has for so many years for us to have a shot at the postseason.

I think it's gonna be tough early on and even if we get it together later in the season, this rough early schedule may be too much to overcome.

Actually last year was our worst secondary in years. No one knew it though cause we had a name CB in Cromartie. Check the stats. We were 22nd in pass defense last year. And overall our defense is better this season with Pryor and Babin. Plus Demario is prime for a breakout year.

The defense AS A WHOLE, which is what matters, is better than it was last season.

Heh! The Raiders were playing a rookie Qb in his first game. GTFO with that.
