I'm really concerned McCagnan is going to give big money to Glennon

Glennon would be the worst type of hire - neither (another) one-year stopgap or a rookie to get behind.

3 or 4 years of very average quarterback play means that we are, at best, going nowhere.

IF this happens, Maccagnan, after being burned by this type of signing with Fitzpatrick, will have to have 100% conviction the guy won't cost him his job.

Glennon was really disliked by the Bucs fan base. How many QB's who were in bad favor with their home fans turned out to be something special before they hit 33 and got rescued by an organization on a power drive towards a Super Bowl?

I really can't think of any.

Glennon may be good one day but that day is going to be along about 2023 and it's going to take a great organization to make it happen. Jets fans will be booing him and calling him Lurch within a year. That's what happened in Tampa Bay.

Preface this by saying I don't think Glennon had much of a chance and I do not hate the idea of him-----> that said Vinny was hated by most fanbases before Parcells brought him here and most Jet fans hated the move at the time and I was one of them !

And that's exactly why I used the 33 year old coming onto a team already primed for a Super Bowl drive as the exception. Jim Plunkett and the Raiders fit that category also as do Trent Dilfer and the Ravens.

I am not worried about Macc giving a lot of money for Glennon because quite honestly he isn't worth it. See, even if his agent says that he deserves Osweiler money, or even fitz money, he wouldn't be able to get it. His level of experience and success is incomparable to either of them in 2015. He has been a backup now for a few years...IMO I think at most he would make 8 mil, and IMO that may be over paying him.

Glennon probably gets a Fitz-esque type of contract. A prove-it lowest-priced non-rookie starter deal on a short deal. 2 years, $24mil with $15mil guaranteed.I could be way off, but nobody is going to strap themselves to a long-term deal on an unknown.

Glennon is overhyped and overrated around the NYC area because Francesa has pumped him up for years for some weird reason

I don't even want to waste time or money on him but I have a bad feeling we will

I remember watching him in a game his senior year at NC State because I was paying attention to the QB prospects....It was 4th and goal to either tie or or win at the end of the game and he was getting hurried...Instead of giving someone a chance he just threw the ball out of the back of the end zone ending the game right there. He just walked off the field like a big goof as if it was the right thing to do in that situation

Right then I knew he just doesn't get it as a QB...He's not close to a franchise QB

I would be surprised if he's given 12 million per, I'm thinking 8 and perhaps 10 if there is performance bonuses like touchdowns, etc.

    Thank you.

As someone who doesn't listen to Francesca, this helps me to understand TGG's Glennon fetish.

Sorry, but I wouldn't hate Glennon. I'm not a fan of his, but I'd much prefer him over an older JAG QB that would command more money and probably demand to be named the starter, or at least Bowles would anyway. I want someone younger who will likely be cheaper who has starting experience that can push and compete with Petty and Hack, but not be so good that he stands in their way or is handed the starting job. I think the Jets should roll with Petty and Hack and a young veteran in 2017 and see if Petty or Hack are up to the task. If not, they can cut one or both of them following the 2017 season and start over at QB.

I disagree. We're going nowhere next year anyway. I want someone to compete with and push Petty and Hack for 2017, but not someone so good that he would automatically be the starter and would stand in their way of developing. I think the 2017 season should be about developing the young players on the roster and getting them experience, and not caring about wins and losses. IMO even with a better FA QB (if there is such a thing), the Jets would lose more games in 2017 than they'd win anyway.

It does but, longer term, 7-9 with an aging team is more damaging than 0-16.

I agree, if we know Petty and Hack can be developed. I'm not sure if I believe the "hold the clipboard for a year" treatment any more so I have concerns that either can ever amount to more than Matt Simms.

I wish someone could enlighten me on exactly what is the rookie QB strategy when they don't plan on suiting up for the year. Do they get enough reps with the main OL/WR corps for this to be worthwhile?

I understand. Neither may amount to even a quality backup QB, but IMO it's way too early to give up on either of them. The coaching aspect is huge, and they were not getting good coaching. Who knows if it will be any better in 2017, but we have to hope.

Personally I'd rather they snuck in a win or two if they could afford it on the way to #1.
